My sister is getting married now – does anybody have any recommendations for songs at the Chupa?
October 5, 2014 9:53 pm at 9:53 pm #1037719ivoryParticipantAsk your sister and her chosson which songs they want
October 5, 2014 11:22 pm at 11:22 pm #1037720cozimjewishMemberSimcha Leiner sings a stunning one – I think it’s called “Pischi Li” – not sure.
Tefillat Kallah – Yaakov Shwekey (Album: Kolot)
There are a lot of nice old songs – Mi Adir from Alumni (Yerachmiel Begun), Asher Bara by Shloime Dachs (Not sure what album – I think Avinu but don’t quote me).
Meheira – Miami BC (Album: Yovo) Nice song; not sure it’s the best for a chuppa though
October 5, 2014 11:38 pm at 11:38 pm #1037721RandomexMemberWhat about a couple introduction (“intro”) song? Do they have one picked out already?
October 5, 2014 11:54 pm at 11:54 pm #1037722popa_bar_abbaParticipantMy sister is getting married now – does anybody have any recommendations for songs at the Chupa?
How about, when the grandparents walk down, you can play “ilan ilan”?
Cute idea, no?
(Get it, it’s like you’re saying that the grandparents are the tree in the moshol and the kids are the netiyos. It isn’t an exact comparison because usually the grandparents are not so completely perfect and have such completely perfect lives that you can’t think of anything to bless them with. But nobody probably except me will think of that, because they’ll be too busy smiling at your brilliance application of the worst song in modern music.)
October 6, 2014 12:19 am at 12:19 am #1037723☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantYou don’t like Ilan Ilan?
October 6, 2014 12:35 am at 12:35 am #1037724cozimjewishMemberYes, OK, maybe popa took it a bit far, but I prefer other shwekey songs
October 6, 2014 12:44 am at 12:44 am #1037725screwdriverdelightParticipantI’m willing to bet a chupah is nicer without background music.
But only if people are quiet, or you’re left with their background noise. (And no way will you get people to be quiet.)
October 6, 2014 12:47 am at 12:47 am #1037726popa_bar_abbaParticipantYou don’t like Ilan Ilan?
Not at all. It is “fake emotion” at its best.
You see these people shuckling and furrowing their brow and chocking out the words as they sing them, at a kumzitz or someat. And what are they being so emotional about? A song about a tree? A contextless application?
It’s just manufactured emotion. Completely silly. It’s a dumb song.
October 6, 2014 1:00 am at 1:00 am #1037727☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantNo, it’s how the younger generation expresses its admiration and brachah to the older generation.
October 6, 2014 1:15 am at 1:15 am #1037728popa_bar_abbaParticipantWell, that doesn’t make any sense. The chazal clearly wasn’t intended to apply to the entire older generation of every generation!!
October 6, 2014 1:32 am at 1:32 am #1037729oomisParticipant“How about, when the grandparents walk down, you can play “ilan ilan”? “
I happen to love that song, and it is WHOLLY appropriate for grandparents marching down.
As to noise during a chuppah, I am asronished and proud to relate that when my daughter got married 8 years ago, my son-in-law’s friends were singing Im Eshkacheich (magnificently harmoniously)
a capella under the chuppah, and you could hear a pin drop during the entire chuppah. Not a single sound except for the what was happening under the chuppah. I really have no answer as to why that is so, and I never experienced it prior or since,at other chasunahs that we have made.
October 6, 2014 1:34 am at 1:34 am #1037730RandomexMemberTry Country Yossi’s “Elan Elan.”
OP (yekke2), any details as to what you’re looking for?
October 6, 2014 1:39 am at 1:39 am #1037731cozimjewishMemberI like the message. I’m just not crazy about the tune.
SDD – i don’t agree. Music makes everything nicer, and far more emotional. Also, a song remains in people’s memories. A person will often associate a memory/feeling with a certain song.
October 6, 2014 2:04 am at 2:04 am #1037732RandomexMemberClarification: As is sort of visible in my above post, I did not mean to suggest Country Yossi’s “Elan Elan” as a chupa song, just to suggest it for people who don’t like Shwekey’s “Ilan Ilan” (which I’ve never heard), though I suppose by the same reasoning…
October 6, 2014 2:15 am at 2:15 am #1037733popa_bar_abbaParticipantWhat has shwekey to do with ilan ilan? Its an abie rotenberg song from eish.
October 6, 2014 2:34 am at 2:34 am #1037734cozimjewishMemberShwekey sings it on his album Ad bli Dai. It was composed by Yochanan Shapiro
October 6, 2014 2:42 am at 2:42 am #1037735☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantOctober 6, 2014 3:18 am at 3:18 am #1037736popa_bar_abbaParticipantYes, I’m aware of it. That isn’t “ilan ilan.” It’s just another song with the same words.
October 6, 2014 3:54 am at 3:54 am #1037737cozimjewishMemberAlright, but shwekey’s Ilan is very popular. Lots of people think it’s stunning. Idk if it’s the best song for a chuppa – to me, it seems a bit random. (Although that could be because the song isn’t my taste)
October 6, 2014 8:51 am at 8:51 am #1037738ChortkovParticipantLooking for a very inspirational tune to sing to the words of Mi Adir and Mi Bon Siach…
October 6, 2014 12:00 pm at 12:00 pm #1037739cozimjewishMemberMi Adir from Alumni, as I said above is really gorgeous. Eli Gerstner sings a stunning mi adir (album: yosis). Also Dovid Gabay (album: Legabay – I THINK)
Mi bon siach – there’s always the classic abie one (I THINK its on an album called Kol Zimra??? or something??), probably way over-used but stunning anyway. I think he has composed a few but the one I’m thinking of is his nicest one (in my humble opinion, anyway;) ) Shalsheles 2 sings a stunning one as well, but again probably done too many times.
I am positive that Avraham Fried, MBD and Yaakov Shwekey all sing nice ones, just can’t think of them off the top of my head. Shwekey – maybe on cry no more? But I don’t really remember…. Also I think you should really consider the simcha leiner song, even if it’s not the exact words you’re looking for. It’s a gorgeous song, like all his music.
October 6, 2014 7:05 pm at 7:05 pm #1037740screwdriverdelightParticipant“asader lesudassah” (the chassidish one, played on lchayim tish 3) is good for “mi adir”
on the subject of chupahs, is there a makor for the minhag to walk down the chosson/kallah with candles?
October 6, 2014 7:29 pm at 7:29 pm #1037741DaMosheParticipantI recently sang at a chuppah. For Mi Adir, I used the tune from Chatzos Lailah, from Miami Boys Choir. For Mi Bon Siach, I used the one from Lev V’Nefesh 2. Then, I used Shwekey’s Im Eshkacheich.
October 6, 2014 10:09 pm at 10:09 pm #1037743Little FroggieParticipantWas at a wedding years ago where the musician played at the request of the Kallah (I kid you not) the Teshuva song from Middos Machine (a most beautiful melody, btw)
October 7, 2014 8:06 am at 8:06 am #1037744haifagirlParticipantI was at a wedding last night, and after the brochos, before breaking the glass, they sang “Im Eshkacheich.” I thought that was really nice.
October 7, 2014 10:04 am at 10:04 am #1037745cozimjewishMemberIt was probably SayIDidIt’s daughter
October 7, 2014 11:33 am at 11:33 am #1037746cozimjewishMember“It was probably SIDI’s daughter” that was in reference to the wedding with a song from MMM

I always wanted to walk down to the “kipah kipah” song from R Kunda’s The Magic Yarmulka but it just wouldn’t happen… 😉 I still love that song though!
October 7, 2014 3:54 pm at 3:54 pm #1037748cozimjewishMemberstreekgeek – that’s one of the Shmuel Kunda songs I DON’T like!!!! (There’s very few of them, btw – I think only kipa, yum-yum-yarmulke and where is hymie himmelstein) btw, yekke2, hows the decision going? could u tell us when you have decided on songs? Thanks!
October 7, 2014 4:46 pm at 4:46 pm #1037749heavy briskerMemberhow about be’ein maylitz yoisher.
October 7, 2014 5:33 pm at 5:33 pm #1037750streekgeekParticipantcozimjewish – Shhhhh….don’t tell me that! Me and all my sisters has loved it since we were kids. I’m not going to listen to such things from you…
October 7, 2014 5:51 pm at 5:51 pm #1037751ChortkovParticipantThe Chosson is thinking about Daled Bovois, the Kallah likes Chamoil (see Youtube stunning chuppas with shira chior where they sing this), and they both like the “chupa choson” from Werdyger family. Mona Rosenblums “Groise Chasuna” album is also very nice, but not going to be. Still deciding!!
October 7, 2014 6:02 pm at 6:02 pm #1037752popa_bar_abbaParticipantEverybody (DY) knows there’s only one song worth walking to the chuppah to.
October 7, 2014 7:07 pm at 7:07 pm #1037753☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantYes, Gam Ki Eileich…
October 7, 2014 11:01 pm at 11:01 pm #1037754cozimjewishMemberDY – which gam ki elech?
streekgeek – sorry! dw i am a huge shmuel kunda fan, nevertheless!
October 8, 2014 2:25 am at 2:25 am #1037755joker bar daddyMemberkol berama…………………..or yehi ratzon by simcha leiner
October 8, 2014 2:50 am at 2:50 am #1037756cozimjewishMemberJBD – I was thinking of Kol Berama, but I didn’t think it was appropriate for a chuppa. That song reminds me of Leiby Kletzky (probably coz the first time I heard it was on the Chofetz Chaim Tisha B’Av video the year he was killed) and it’s such a sad, sad song. A chuppa is supposed to be moving, yes, but sad?
October 8, 2014 2:49 pm at 2:49 pm #1037757ChortkovParticipantThanks everyone for all your suggestions! Keep them coming!
October 13, 2014 12:39 pm at 12:39 pm #1037759Just SmileParticipantPersonally, I walked down to The Shalom song from Marvelos Middos Machine
October 13, 2014 1:06 pm at 1:06 pm #1037760cozimjewishMemberLOL! You people make me laugh! Yes if only I could have “Everything has a place” “I ran I ran” or “I am Simcha Shtark” at my wedding……not sure what all the guests would think though ;D
October 13, 2014 1:07 pm at 1:07 pm #1037761cozimjewishMemberIn our community, chuppas are NEVER on time, so “Always late” might be appropriate
October 28, 2014 5:54 pm at 5:54 pm #1037762ChortkovParticipantSo she got married. And the Chupa was on time.
When the Chosson came out, they sang Boruch Habo, and then Mi Adir to the chune of “Pnei Lelboin/Koily Shema”. When the Kallah came out it was Brucho Habo, and then Mi Bon Siach to the tune of “Shomrei” (belz). Stunning.
October 25, 2021 2:25 pm at 2:25 pm #2020575MaivinParticipantOne of the most GORG Chuppah songs are Eishes Chayil by Eitan Katz. SO moving. Stunning.
