    from child molesters?

Do you talk to your children about the danger that is out there? do they know that they can tell you anything without feeling like its their fault what steps have you taken?

there is so much more awareness right now about the subject over the past year. there are books for children also and orginazations that come into the schools and/or speak with parents . very important to have open communication with children. they should feel comfortable coming to their parents with any problems.

My doctor explained it to them just fine at their annual checkup.

Any parents here who want to share how they are protecting their children from this very real danger? a danger that affects children physically emotionally and spiritually.

How did that go exactly? Nobody but me is allowed to touch you like this?

Funny, that’s almost the same lesson they got from the creepy guy in shul last week…

Although that begs another question – how the heck could you protect them from parental abuse?!

Are parents educating themselves on how to protect their children from this very real danger? it would be nice to believe that this cant happen to YOUR child but it can it would be nice if we could trust everyone who watches our children but we cant.

parents need to discuss these important topics with their children at the appropriate ages. age 3-4.

children need to know never go with a stranger . even if he knows your name and offers you food/candy.

no secrets between adults and children.

children need to know when someone that is familiar to them, neighbor, friend of family, guest etc. tells them do not tell your parents what happened, or your parents don’t need to know, the child must come to his parents and tell.

you must instill these methods into the home but at the same time not to frighten the child.

amichai is right, I stress that no secrets rule to my kids and I once had to teach it to a well meaning Rebbe.

I don’t want to scare my (easily scared) kids but I do tell them that if they ever feel uncomfortable about how someone is acting with them they should trust their instincts and tell us.

Another thing I have done is to keep on top of who has been recently arrested and then popped right back into their jobs (and chaverim positions) so I know who to protect my kids from.

Lastly I have been trying to keep on top of which Rabbis support the molesters or try to prevent it from going public, and I keep away from them as well.

I don’t know what inspired you to bring this up at this time, Goq, but you are SOOOO right. I have many, many friends who suffered abuse as kids and it has damaged them until this day. We need to prevent the next generation from suffering.

It’s a sensitive topic that is has been brought up in our community recently, as a parent were obligated to teach and protect our kids. What’s sad is we have lost trust in our rabbeim and teachers b/c we don’t know who is who.
