December 9, 2013 3:40 am at 3:40 am #994512☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantIt’s different for each girl.
December 9, 2013 7:22 am at 7:22 am #994513hodulashemParticipantThese are just some suggestions of things you can include. you don’t have to fill in any blanks… or you can fill them all. My sem autobiography included some of these topics… just speak from your heart- let them know who you are!
My name is _________, my family is _______ and ______. i learned _____ from the home that i grew up in… my parents have always taught me…. my values include ______ etc, etc… my experience in high school has taught me that_______… In the past i’ve struggled with ____ but now i ______. someone that has really influenced my life is _________ because… I really enjoy doing ______… i’m a talented______ and love to use my kochos by… My friends have helped me ________. In seminary I hope to ______ and ________. My vision for my future________.
like i said, just speak from the heart! hatzlacha!
December 10, 2013 12:32 am at 12:32 am #994514fkellyMemberI think you should leave put what you struggled with in the past. Seminaries like to pretend their taking in girls who are perfect. Unless you apply to a non-Bais Yaakov seminary.
December 10, 2013 1:51 am at 1:51 am #994515hodulashemParticipantfkelly, i think it depends on what you’ve struggled with… but i do see what you are saying… the way i see it, depending on the type of struggle, how you’ve overcome it, where you stand now, and how you present it, this bit of information can show strength and open a window for them to see the growing person that you are… of course a girl should not put in info that will shed a more negative light on her!! it happens to be that the struggles i wrote about were not of hashkafic nature and was not something that would make a difference to whether a bais yaakov seminary or non-bais yaakov seminary was reading it…
and just to go off on a little tangent here… what you wrote is so ironic but sadly true (but not of all seminaries!): “seminaries like to pretend they’re taking in girls who are perfect”
…so please don’t write about your struggles because you need to pretend to be perfect in order to be accepted into their “pretend perfect” seminary… why does everyone have to pretend?!?! can’t we face our struggles like adults and deal with them??
December 10, 2013 1:53 am at 1:53 am #994516noniknameMemberwrite what makes u who u r 2day, chesed u do nd y u want 2 go 2 their sem
December 10, 2013 3:57 am at 3:57 am #994517fkellyMemberI think it’s crazy hodulahashem! But we’re not going to change the world. So if the reality is such you can’t fight it, you gotta go along with it. But I happen to think the whole seminary thing is pretty overrated and seminaries take so much advantage of people in the application/acceptance process.
December 10, 2013 7:02 am at 7:02 am #994518Miri TopezMemberSay what kind of good girl you are:)
December 10, 2013 3:41 pm at 3:41 pm #994519seminaryMemberThank you all, i have completed my autobiography

December 10, 2013 9:52 pm at 9:52 pm #994522fkellyMemberIt actually is a great way to stay anonymous because all bios are the same
December 11, 2013 12:49 am at 12:49 am #994523noniknameMemberwat?!? how cud tht be if no two people r alike
December 11, 2013 2:26 am at 2:26 am #994524fkellyMemberCuz everyone writes pretty much along the same lines. They grew up in a house where there parents instilled in them yiras shamayim and a love of Torah. They were song dance head and used leadership skills then. They hope to go to eretz yisroel so they can learn Torah and eventually build a Torah home. Is yours much different than that?
December 11, 2013 4:50 am at 4:50 am #994525seminaryMemberIts sounds exactly like that in a longer version.. lol
December 11, 2013 9:44 pm at 9:44 pm #994526noniknameMemberthen i am unique:)
mine was nothing like tht (maybe cuz i was never songdance head)
December 11, 2013 11:06 pm at 11:06 pm #994527fkellyMemberWell that’s the typical one. Oh I forgot some things! I was a counselor in a camp and had a lot of responsibility and was mashpia on my campers. I want to be a teacher and continue to help girls. And you also write about the chessed you do whichc made you into a more caring and patient person.
December 12, 2013 1:55 am at 1:55 am #994528lifes greatMemberfkelly
Thanx for the great ideas! I had no clue what to write in mine!!
December 12, 2013 3:40 am at 3:40 am #994529noniknameMemberi wrote none of those things, i wrote a major challenge that i went through, how i dealt with that and how i grew from it
December 12, 2013 10:10 pm at 10:10 pm #994530fkellyMemberWell nonikname that’s quite unusual! Most people try to pretend they’re perfect on their bios and interviews.
December 13, 2013 7:22 pm at 7:22 pm #994532noniknameMemberyeah ik… idk y cuz why wud u wanna go somewhere that u have to get in by faking?
December 15, 2013 12:32 am at 12:32 am #994533hodulashemParticipantaha! so i’m not the only one that writes about my struggles!! nonikname, i’m with you in regard to being real with the world!!
December 15, 2013 1:00 am at 1:00 am #994534fkellyMemberI agree with you guys! I think it’s crazy how everyone is putting on a show for seminary! But most people just go along with it…and that’s what their bios look like.
December 15, 2013 2:56 am at 2:56 am #994535Torah613TorahParticipantMake sure to write about fake struggles.
December 15, 2013 3:38 am at 3:38 am #994536fkellyMemberLike what Torah?
December 18, 2013 10:55 pm at 10:55 pm #994537noniknameMemberlol torah
do u mean like- there was a old lady standing on the train and it was a mojor struggle deciding if i shud give her my seat, but out of the goodness of my heart i stood up nd gave her my seat
December 19, 2013 1:56 am at 1:56 am #994538Torah613TorahParticipantGood try, but that sounds too human.
How about you admire this teacher who says the whole sefer Tehillim every day, but it’s too much for you, so after many weeks of working on it you now say sefer Tehillim once a month. By going to ________ seminary, you hope to be inspired to say it once a day, or at least once a week since you are too humble to aspire to such greatness.
