Rav Nosson Tzvi Finkel Zatzal was a paragon of Mesiras Nefesh for every facet of avodas Hashem. Please read the following.

Every day after Shacharis, his father would learn for two hours, and was mapkid on this learning period his entire life. One day, a wealthy merchant knocked on the door of the Kotler family, and informed them that he would like to buy a sizable amount of furs. However, it was the set learning time of Rav Kotler. His wife knocked on the door of his room, once, twice, and three times, and urged her husband to utilize this opportunity for his business.

to WYI; i don’t know the publication “Revach.net’ from where you got the story about R”aaron zz,l’s father, but this the same story ,in slightly diffretn versions, have been around for centuries…so i really wonder whether it is an urban legend or a true story.

That story is very similar to one in the Gemara. It doesn’t matter who it happened to. Mistama it has happened several times (more, probably) over the centuries. Who ie precisely happened to doesn’t change the point of it.

Sam2- I must disagree with your post. Clearly, the spirit of this story is the essential part (akin to the gemoro and the Poroh adumoh story)but attributing this to a speciifc person without pointing out that it may just be a “moshol”,contributes to the “hagiographies’ of Gedolim ,that imbues them with supernatural powers, never to be questioned.

This story is in tuvcha yabiu I’m sure he has better things to do than to make up stories about Rav Aharon when he has hundreds of living talmidim as well as many grandchildren who can dispute it. With all due respect I think you’re an idiot.

WIY: thank you for the compliment. I prefer to be such an idiot rather than accepting every “buba maaseh”.

The problem is you throw out the baby with the bath water and no its not a bubbeh maaseh. It is very unlikely that Rabbi Yitzchak Zilberstein shlita makes up stories about Rav Aharon Kotler when he wasnt niftar all that long ago and the story can be proven false and make him look bad. He happens to be a great man and not some story teller out there…

Some people prefer not to believe any Tzaddik story and that is wrong as well. There are 1000’s of verified stories of Tzaddikim. Im not interesting in arguing so believe what you want but there have been many stories of Tzaddikim doing miracles (this isnt one of them). Yes they were supernatural in that they received special siyyata dishmaya from Hashem. Yes they were regular humans who decided to be different than everyone else and devote themselves totally body and soul every waking and sleeping moment to Hashem. You dont think that to a certain extent Rav Chaim Kannievsky does is supernatural. Or Rav Aharon Leib Shteinman, or Rav Ovadia zatzal, theres 100s if not 1000s of unbelievable stories about Ravv Ovadiah. All made up right?

Im sure there are people like you that in 70 years will say the stories about Rav Chaims hasmadah are made up. Talking about miracles, you didn’t hear the story with Rav Chaim and teh grasshopper? He verified it himself? Is he lying too?

WIY: It is very close ot shabbos here on the East Coast and I will be brief. Note that I am of chassidic stock and therefore am very familiar with many stories of rebbes and the wonders surrounding them. I wish that the so-called litvishe world would accept these too.

I did not say- by the way-that the story CANNOT be true but that it has a very familiar ring and that, therefore, it may or may not be genuine.

There are, indeed, many stories of “shelo kederach hateva”, many of them very unusual but most of them unverifiable. I believe in my “rebbeim’ but I don’t have to make them infallible or having ruach hakodesh.

Where you and I differ markedly is how to accept a Godol’s words. I maintain they are not infallible and are human beings with human failings. You are entitled to follow their every word but I am entitled to be more skeptical. If this makes me an apikores-then there are many more around. You may think differently. And,btw, I do not know the story of the grasshopper. And, of course, no one questions the hasmodo of some gedolim. Does that make them infallible?

    gut shabbos.

I dont believe Gadolim are infallible but I do believe that they have special siyatta dishmaya and certainly we had many Tzaddikim in the past who had Ruach Hakodesh, it was not so long ago that the Steipler zatzal was niftar, he was known to have open Ruach hakodesh there are many stories about him.

Heres the grasshopper story I got it from matzav dot com.

Approximately eight years ago, Rav Chaim was learning Maseches Chullin and a sugyah relating to chagovim, grasshoppers. Rav Chaim realized that he needed to see a grasshopper to better understand the Gemara – apparently he had never seen a live grasshopper before – and asked his daughter to bring him one. She tried, but reported to her father that she failed to find one. He went back to the sugyah, and lo and behold, a grasshopper came hopping through the window, landing on his Gemara. After examining it, he let it go. As he continued through the sugyah, he realized that he needed to study the hind legs a bit more, but the grasshopper was long gone. Before closing his Gemara, a second grasshopper hopped in and on to his Gemara, giving him the ability to study its hind leg in detail.

Hi ROB – who they happened to is irrelevant I think, as they say about our Rav who is rumored to finish Shas twice a yr – “whether it’s true or not, they don’t say that about you & me!”

The point is it happened to someone, if not several gedolim, and we’re supposed to take out of it whatever we can to apply for our own growth…
