I am 43 yo man. I am unemployed with PhD in Mathematics. I have Asperger’s Syndrome.
I have been a believing Jew since I was 12, but to my shame not very observant. I have read many Jewish holy books — the Torah, most Tanach, come Talmud, much web information. Unfortunately I am not familiar with the world of observant Jews. The closest Chabad is 50 miles away and I do not drive.
As all my goals in life crashed, I started once again to give thought to G-d and to my own future life.

September 8, 2013 2:50 pm at 2:50 pm #975298LevAryehMemberAh, God’s gift to the Jews … the midlife crisis! Thank Hashem that you’re going through this emotional upheaval, and pray that you will end out on top!
As far as practical advice, Permission to Believe and Permission to Receive, both by Lawrence Kellerman, are great reads.
For insight on Orthodox Jewish communities and customs, try The Non-Orthodox Jew’s Guide to Orthodox Jews, by David Baum. It’s very informative both for Orthodox and non Orthodox Jews.
September 8, 2013 2:51 pm at 2:51 pm #975299ilovetorahParticipantWelcome! Its wonderful being an observant Jew! There are many organizations that specialize in helping our dear brothers and sisters understand and feel the beauty of being and living a true Jewish lifestyle. Why don’t you try out”partners in torah” (partnersintorah.org). there are other wonderful websites, I will update when I get their exact website address.
September 8, 2013 4:30 pm at 4:30 pm #975300ilovetorahParticipantKiruv.com and aish.com are two more sites that you can get alot of wonderful news, contacts, and information from.
September 8, 2013 5:11 pm at 5:11 pm #975301Lost1970MemberThank G-d that I have never lost my Jewishness. I do study with “Partners in Torah” about 25 min a week but at the beginning I did not even know my main issue — understanding the basics.

September 8, 2013 6:46 pm at 6:46 pm #975303ilovetorahParticipantYou can also try torahmates.org
September 8, 2013 6:53 pm at 6:53 pm #975304ilovetorahParticipantHave you ever tried talking to your partner in torah about “the basics”? If he can’t help you I would assume he can put you in touch with another mentor/rabbi who can help you. It is wonderful that you are giving it alot of thought and realizing what you are missing. As a famous rabbi once said “knowing the question is already half of the answer”. I would maybe suggest talking about “the basics” here in the coffee room, however there are too many not serious/uneducated/trolls/cynical…..people and therefore I don’t think this would be the appropriate forum. Please don’t give up! You will be happy in the end!!

September 8, 2013 9:30 pm at 9:30 pm #975306rationalfrummieMemberLost- Just you know, you’re never really “lost.” Every single person is on a holy journey that can lead them to happiness, peace of mind, and all the best blessings of life. You just have to follow a path of chessed (kindness) and ahavah (love). While everyone wanders off the path from time to time, know that you are never entirely lost, and you are never alone. With some Jewish education (From books), a good Rabbi or mentor, and a community, even if its small, you can go a long way. Hatzlachah rabah (good luck on your journey!!

I will try. One of the lessons in life I have learned is that someone who lives on charity is not entitled to anything.
September 8, 2013 11:09 pm at 11:09 pm #975310SaysMeMemberaish.dot IS orthodox and an amazing source of info at all levels, from basic to complex. And they have a lot of different media to offer.

Thank you. Toldot.ru has a lot of interesting audio lectures in my first language — Russian.
September 9, 2013 4:19 pm at 4:19 pm #975312ilovetorahParticipantYes. Aish.com is orthodox. It is the website run by Aish Hatorah which is a kiruv yeshiva located right next to the kosel (western wall). Good luck!!

I did sign in there. Thank G-d, there are many Jews in my town.
Is there any guide on how to use that site? I am unfamiliar with Facebook, thus I do not know how to use such sites.
