July 15, 2013 12:58 pm at 12:58 pm #965759dafyomi2711Membersome kind of melon always works for me. It prepares your mouth to eat better.

July 15, 2013 3:37 pm at 3:37 pm #965763tzaddiqMemberit might be plain and boring, but this is my menu pretty much always following a fast.
– hot, fresh, toasted baguette
– potato soup
– cinnamon pastry + coffee for desert
i don’t overeat, and try to have some vegetables with my soup. then i wait about an hour if i want to eat more.
July 15, 2013 5:48 pm at 5:48 pm #965764moi aussiMemberHerring with honey cake is the best.
July 15, 2013 6:22 pm at 6:22 pm #965765Sam2ParticipantMeat. (If anyone has any idea what I’m referring to… well, I’d be quite impressed if anyone gets it right.
July 15, 2013 6:51 pm at 6:51 pm #965766moi aussiMemberSam2, when there’s a Bris on Tisha Be’av, I guess one can eat meat after the fast, as part of the Se’udas Bris
July 15, 2013 7:38 pm at 7:38 pm #965767jbaldy22Membernothing ever works for me – I feel pretty horrible no matter what I eat usually after a fast. probably will just eat some toast and pray for the best.
July 15, 2013 9:08 pm at 9:08 pm #965768Sam2Participantmoi aussi: 4 times in my life I have been Zoche to break my fast on meat. None of them were at a Bris.

If Tisha B’av was a nidche, and there is a seudas pidyon haben after the fast?
July 15, 2013 9:31 pm at 9:31 pm #965770jbaldy22Memberpidyon haben? I am really curious.
figured you couldn’t have eaten shor habar 4 time in your life
July 15, 2013 10:11 pm at 10:11 pm #965771moi aussiMemberIf Tisha B’Av is a nidcha, one can eat meat after the fast because it’s already 11 Av (no need to have a Pidyon Haben or Bris)
July 15, 2013 10:22 pm at 10:22 pm #965772supermeMemberThis is funny were talking about what to break fast on and the fast didnt start yet! Lol
July 15, 2013 10:23 pm at 10:23 pm #965774yeshivaguy45ParticipantSam2 Does this have anything to do with Moshiach? I think I heard somewhere that Tisha B’Av will be a Yom Tov when Mashiach comes.
July 15, 2013 10:36 pm at 10:36 pm #965775moi aussiMembersuperme, the fast has started in Erets Yisrael and in Europe, and in Australia it’s after Shacharis already.
No my user name doesn’t mean Australian, it means “me also” in French.
July 15, 2013 10:40 pm at 10:40 pm #965776Sam2Participantyeshiva: I might be crazy, but I don’t think I’ve celebrated Tishah B’av Bimos Hamashiach 4 times yet. 🙂
July 15, 2013 10:56 pm at 10:56 pm #965777☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantSiyum?
July 15, 2013 11:04 pm at 11:04 pm #965778Sam2Participant1 of the 4 was at a Chavrusa’s Siyum on Shas. He saved Perek Eilu M’galchim so he could learn it on Tishah B’av. Then he felt it was inappropriate to finish Shas after the fast, so we learned the Perek then broke our fast at 2 am. I’d say that deserved Basar.
July 16, 2013 2:48 am at 2:48 am #965779rebdonielMemberFruit is always good. Shuls usually put out cake and orange juice.
July 16, 2013 1:31 pm at 1:31 pm #965780mewhoParticipantwe have breakfast cereals as well as bagels and lox and cream cheese.
nothing heavy.
to me the break fast meal should be the two words put together
”breakfast”
July 16, 2013 5:06 pm at 5:06 pm #965781jewishfeminist02MemberDepends on my mood. This time around, I’m going to break my fast on eggs, toast, and coffee. (As I said to my husband, it’s a lot cheaper than the previous fast, which we broke on kosher takeout).
July 16, 2013 6:02 pm at 6:02 pm #965782pinnymMemberjust broke my fast in Jerusalem on some delicious chocolate chip cookies, napoleon cake carrot cake and cherry cheesecake with an ice coffee. in about an hour I will wash on some garlic bread with onion soup and calzones and some cheese mushroom quiche. YUM. anyone jealous??.
and to you guys out there in America: have an easy meaningful fast. and may we be zoche next year to eat the shor habor.amen.
July 16, 2013 6:05 pm at 6:05 pm #965783ObstacleIllusionParticipantWater, green juice, some nuts, maybe a grapefruit or two. If I’m really ravenous I’ll have some salmon.
July 16, 2013 6:36 pm at 6:36 pm #965784Shopping613 🌠ParticipantBagel w/lox, cream cheese, herring, and a good old smerican pickle with a glass of cold orange juice….and a salad (with brocolli of course)
July 16, 2013 6:37 pm at 6:37 pm #965785Shopping613 🌠ParticipantAnd yes, it was delicous! Cuz down here were done!
July 16, 2013 6:54 pm at 6:54 pm #965786ObstacleIllusionParticipantOh broccoli, definitely a good idea. With cheese.
July 16, 2013 8:10 pm at 8:10 pm #965787Shopping613 🌠ParticipantBetter yet, brocolli pizza or a brocolli omlet or…did i mention brocolli is my favorote food?
July 16, 2013 8:27 pm at 8:27 pm #965788jewishfeminist02MemberI also love broccoli, especially paired with cheddar cheese! Broccoli cheddar soup is AMAZING. And there is a kosher brand of frozen food called Aunt Trudy’s that makes a really yummy broccoli cheddar phyllo pocket.
July 16, 2013 8:48 pm at 8:48 pm #965789Rabbi PerfectMemberwow, that post by pinnym REALLY made me jealous. I’m still fasting =(. When I was in yeshiva in EY after every fast, for all the years I was there, yeshiva gave out bagels and a variety of cream cheeses along with some sliced veggies, and some of the bachurim would be in the kitchen during Arvit (since yeshiva’s minyan was later, these guys would daven in the shul next door’s earlier minyan) making scrambled eggs with veggies in ’em. However me and my friends had a sort of system, one would get the bagels for us, the other the cream cheeses, another the scrambled eggs, while I would go and make all of us some tea with sugar. We would all first have a few sips of tea, then we would…feast. Yeah, the good ol’ days…I still try to do some of that here at home as sort of “zecher” to when I was there a couple of years ago.
July 16, 2013 8:55 pm at 8:55 pm #965790pinnymMemberthank you rabbi perfect for the divrei chizuk.
July 16, 2013 10:33 pm at 10:33 pm #965791pinnymMembermoi aussi
did you mean that you eat the herring WITH the honey cake (as in with egg kichels)??
July 16, 2013 10:58 pm at 10:58 pm #965792moi aussiMemberYes pinnym, herring together with honey cake, salty and sweet, yin and yang.
July 16, 2013 11:05 pm at 11:05 pm #965793pinnymMemberok, but why davka honey cake?
July 16, 2013 11:32 pm at 11:32 pm #965794writersoulParticipantOooooh, why did I open this thread…
But while I’m here, masochist that I am, I’ll mention that while I’m breaking my fast on homemade pizza (!!!!!!!!!), the one thing that I ALWAYS have right after a fast is hot chocolate. If I drink cold water too soon after a fast it hurts the roof of my mouth, and the whole chocolatiness is just mamash madhim after the whole fast.
July 16, 2013 11:39 pm at 11:39 pm #965795whatdoiknow99Membermoi aussi: One may not eat meat (nor drink wine) after Tisha B’av even if it’s a nitcha. However, if it’s a nitcha, the following morning one may.
July 17, 2013 1:39 am at 1:39 am #965796🍫Syag LchochmaParticipantGuess we are in one of the last cities to finish this fast. I have cinnimon rolls baking with a second batch for my neighbor who made a double batch of onion soup to swap. By that time I will be sick to my stomache but the men in the house will just be getting started. Cereal and milk was always the breaker in my house growing up but my kids like the cinnamon roll minhag I started last year.
(boy am I hungry)
July 17, 2013 3:07 am at 3:07 am #965797rebdonielMemberI had some fresh fruit, a Greek yogurt, and lots of water.
July 17, 2013 3:58 am at 3:58 am #965798☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantSam, what were the other three? (Oh, and are you impressed? 🙂 )
