I am a bochur entering “the parasha” and I would like to know

what is the opinion of all the esteemed members of the coffee room regarding yeshiva bochurim having iPhones and other smartphones. Obviously with proper internet filtering, but having access to emails apps etc.

Additionally what type of impression does this make for shidduchim.

its lichatchila mamesh. in fact, several of the biggest RY in america have said its a choivah to have one. Shadchanim in particular are impressed; it shows you are wordly and frum too! best of luck!

If it’s important to you to have an iPhone, then the kind of person who thinks it’s an aveirah and that you shouldn’t have one is probably not the one for you.

If you don’t care, or you know in your heart or whatever that you really shouldn’t have one but the yetzer hara is too strong or something like that, then by all means get rid of it. IF YOU WANT. Not for shidduchim. Why make a fake persona to attract someone who, if they are attracted to your fake persona and not the real you, is not necessarily your type anyway?

Any flaws in the theory? Please let me know before I hit shidduchim with a loud crash.

    Not so yeshivish

If its filtered its not so bad. But make sure it’s a proper filter and not some lame filter that is easily bypassed. Truth be told a bachur or yungerman who isn’t working really has no need for an iPhone but we live in a world where people like to have things that they don’t need. Either way I am sure that if you choose to pass on having a smartphone until you actually need one it will certainly be a zechus for you to find a good zivug and bekarov. Hatzlacha and may things go easy for you.

You should be asking what impression it makes on the girls.

According to the girls on inshidduchim.com, it is a major red flag.

The phone, i or otherwise, should not make an appearance on a date. It makes a rude impression. Borrow a watch to keep track of time.
