Nowadays, everybody uses the composition of Salomon Sulzer (who lived in the mid 19th century) for Vayehi Binsoa and the other tefillot of the torah service. This is generally taught as such, and is used across the board, from Litvish shuls, all the way to Reform temples. What nusach was used before Sulzer lived, and why don’t we use it? (I find Sulzer and Lewandowski to be the most gifted composers of synagogue music, so my question is not one of practical usage).
Maybe the same as is done in yeshivos.
My guess is we follow our mesorah. Also he was a member of the haskala and did not cover his head. Why in the world would we follow such a person’s nusach for tefilla? Also tefilla is not music. Tefila is praise, requesting our needs and giving thanks to th Borei Olam.
I’m thinking RD likes to troll the CR and asks obscure questions to get a rise out of others for his own gratification. Yes that is the definition of a troll.
MZ, would anyone starting a thread be a troll under your definition (unless the obscure part is m’akev)?
DY- Anyone starting a thread for the sole purpose of riling people up. A troll isn’t asking a question becase he is seeking an answer, but to be as procotive as possible.
Much of Lewandowski’s work is arrangments rather than compositions. I’m sure some of Sulzer’s work was also based on previous work. The reason we attribute works to them is because they were published.
