The kinaidel thread reminded me of a chassidish maaseh I would like to share with the oilam.
The Rebbe was sitting at tisch on leil shabbos, discussing the wonderful macholim we have on shabbos. The Rebbe explained that all Shabbos foods have a counterpart in the elyonos. For example, here we call it knaidel, because in shomayim they eat “naidel”, and here it’s domeh to that, so we call it ki-naidel. We have ki’ishka for the ishka up there, and k-ugel instead of ugel. We’re makpid to eat kichel by shalosheeis, and ki’replach in the zeep. There’s one maychil that is ne’elam in the oilam hu’elyon and we’re only zocheh to in oilam hazeh.
Chulent, said the rebbe, only down here are we zocheh to chulent.
li’chayim!

December 17, 2015 10:56 pm at 10:56 pm #1117829☢️ Rand0m3x 🎲ParticipantIn the original Yiddish, it’s k’neidlach. In English, you could technically say k’neidels, but I doubt many people do.

December 21, 2015 2:48 am at 2:48 am #1117833Ex-CTLawyerParticipantThe good thing was that my MIL’s Knaidel that was so tough that I needed to cut it with a K-Nife was a K-Leine Knaidel.
I washed it down with a Koffee from a K-Cup made in my Keurig.
