It seems like the coffee room is 90% under twenty five.
June 19, 2013 11:22 pm at 11:22 pm #960524jewishfeminist02MemberIs that a problem? And must everyone under 25 be considered a “teen”?
June 19, 2013 11:28 pm at 11:28 pm #960525Rav TuvParticipantIs this a post to try to get everybody to tell how old they are?
I’m disappointed…I thought CF was center field. Dis you mean cr?
June 19, 2013 11:51 pm at 11:51 pm #960526dabeenMemberYes I obviously meant cr. and there’s no ” point” I just found it interesting. ( mods, if you wouldn’t mind can u change the thread name to teens v.s. adults in CR. thanks)

June 20, 2013 1:54 am at 1:54 am #960531yaakov doeParticipantAlmost everyone older is busy working.
June 20, 2013 2:48 am at 2:48 am #960532VogueMemberso you could spend your spare time working as well. I just got a job as a cashier. I dont want to say where because otherwise you might find out who I am. I am an adult though. if your in new york, try luach, parnassah network, ou job board. if your not in new york for sure still try the ou job board, but depending on the size of your community, there might be a bulletin somewhere, an newsletter or something of that nature. when I was in high school, would go to my schools job coach towards the end of the year and got one job through there and that started off my career, I am now on my fifth job and planning on this being permanent. yes, some was volunteer work, but your chessed hours count on your resume as if it were an internship.
June 20, 2013 2:54 am at 2:54 am #960533jewishfeminist02MemberYou want to be a cashier permanently?
June 20, 2013 4:07 am at 4:07 am #960534VogueMemberno, but that means it is a year round job.
June 20, 2013 4:20 am at 4:20 am #960535Burnt SteakParticipantRoar I’m a dinosaur!. But seriously guys, going back to the topic of teens vs. adults, some would say that teens are just young adults. Also some would say that adults are just older teens.
And concerning the ball game, I would like the privilege to play catcher.
June 20, 2013 6:42 am at 6:42 am #960536Shopping613 🌠ParticipantCant we play kick-ball, baseball is for men….and i think most of us are women…..but then again kick-ball isn’t tzniyus to play with men….
I sometimes think all of you are old men and ladies sitting in rocker chairs bored to death.
June 20, 2013 12:59 pm at 12:59 pm #960537ChortkovParticipantSorry, adults – I do hope our childish chatter does not disturb your important discussions.
???? ?????? ??????? ?? ???? ?? ?????
June 20, 2013 3:34 pm at 3:34 pm #960538haifagirlParticipantI vote for 16-inch softball.
June 20, 2013 5:17 pm at 5:17 pm #960539jewishfeminist02MemberI second that! And now that we’ve switched games, I can still call catcher!
June 20, 2013 6:21 pm at 6:21 pm #960540🐵 ⌨ GamanitParticipantI say we play foot-the-ball
June 20, 2013 7:04 pm at 7:04 pm #960541writersoulParticipantApples to Apples?…..

June 21, 2013 12:12 am at 12:12 am #960543playtimeMemberVougue- are you really a cashier? If you like it, great! (DIIING! that’ll be 31.99, sir.”)But you have so much other potential lying dormant on that job, no? You’re smart, very knowledgeable, witty, and engaging. seriously.
June 21, 2013 4:09 am at 4:09 am #960544Burnt SteakParticipanthow about calvinball? I’ll set up the wickets
June 21, 2013 4:49 am at 4:49 am #960545JustHavingFunParticipantTransmogrify us to another universe where all this is child’s play. Oops! I mean teen’s play.
June 21, 2013 6:24 am at 6:24 am #960546Shopping613 🌠ParticipantI think it should be teens vs. Old people…..it seems like anyone who isnt a teen is an old person sitting in a rocking chair. And anyone who isnt sitting there must be a teen
June 21, 2013 11:22 am at 11:22 am #960547haifagirlParticipantWell, I’m not a teen, so I must be an old person. Unfortunately, I can’t afford to buy myself a rocking chair. So, if someone would be so kind, just ship it to the CR and I’ll have them forward it.
June 21, 2013 2:21 pm at 2:21 pm #960548🐵 ⌨ GamanitParticipantIt’s funny how rocking chairs are associated with old people while none of the old people I know have one. The old people I know are old enough that they consider themselves old.
June 21, 2013 2:29 pm at 2:29 pm #960549VogueMemberplaytime, yes, I really am a cashier, the job is actually a lot harder than you think because there are like twenty different types of taxes for food and its hard to remember sometimes which tax to press. also I get to use a walkie talkie and I am still learning how to do it.
June 21, 2013 5:41 pm at 5:41 pm #960550jewishfeminist02MemberThe only people I know who use rocking chairs are young mothers rocking their babies to sleep!
I worked as a cashier for a few months. It really is a difficult job. You have to be on your feet for hours at a time, and you have to remember how to process EBT, SNAP, WIC, check, cash, credit card, nonprofit tax exemption, university department charge line, etc etc. You have to be careful not to double scan items because then you have to void one and you may need a manager’s key to do that. Then there are all the produce codes that you have to remember. You can look them up, but it takes longer and sometimes someone will put something on your belt that you just don’t recognize and you have to actually ask the customer what it is! And then, when you’re not going crazy with all of this, you have long stretches of time with no one coming through your line, and you’re not allowed to read magazines, have a snack, or do anything that might make you less bored. If you make any kind of mistake they will micro-manage you and put you on mandatory audit and hold you accountable for every last penny. One time a customer handed me a penny that she found on the floor and management yelled at me for being one penny over!
Kol hakavod, Vogue. I didn’t last long in that job; I hope you do better than I did!
June 21, 2013 6:16 pm at 6:16 pm #960551rebdonielMemberI’d suggest saving money from being a cashier for school. Look into different professions- accounting, health professions, social work, etc.
June 21, 2013 6:24 pm at 6:24 pm #960552jewishfeminist02MemberAt minimum wage and variable hours, it will take you a loooong time to save enough money! If you are interested in higher education, apply for scholarships or take out loans (or a combination of the two).
June 21, 2013 7:14 pm at 7:14 pm #960553rebdonielMemberA college education in NYC can be obtained for $5K a year, give or take, through any of the constituent colleges of the City University of New York system. Baruch College is one of the finest business schools, City College one of the finest schools for the sciences.
We also have a great Jewish Studies faculty. Prof. Sharon Flatto, an expert on the Noda beYehuda and wife of Rabbi Ysoscher Katz (Maggid shiur at Yeshivat Chovevei Torah), Rabbi Adam Mintz (an expert on eruvin and a well-known MO rabbi on the UWS), Rabbi Rigoberto Vinas (a MO rabbi in Yonkers, and expert on the Anusim, as well as inyanei safrut and giyur), Rabbi Yitzhak Berger (a MO rabbi and expert on Radak, who used to teach at Drisha and Yeshiva of Flatbush), Prof. Robert Shapiro (an expert on the Shoah and a pillar of the Modern Orthodox community in Baltimore), Prof. Sara Reguer (an expert on Jewish women’s issues and JOFA speaker), and quite a few other scholars teach within CUNY, and many frum Jews study across CUNY. Brooklyn College and Queens College have particularly large frum populations and are serviced by JLIC rabbis, and Baruch College is also serviced by Rabbi Miller of the JCRC.
June 23, 2013 4:25 am at 4:25 am #960554VogueMemberI dont live in new york…
June 23, 2013 4:39 pm at 4:39 pm #960555writersoulParticipantI don’t know where you live, but is there a community college in your area?
In Monsey, I know of a bunch of people (and no, I don’t know Lipa Schmeltzer) who to go Rockland Community College either for Associate’s degrees in their chosen professions or as a stepping stone.
What’s good about it is that you pay by the credit and not by the semester- you can just take one class now and you’ll have those credits for the rest of your life.
June 24, 2013 12:32 am at 12:32 am #960556VogueMemberI am already looking into stuff. I work in a frum place…
