What is the level of tznius for yeshiva bochuim in the pool? Does he have to wear a shirt? Can he wear shorts down to the knee? What about in European countries where some places require one to wear a a shorter, form fitting swimsuit to their pools for hygienic reasons?

You didn’t ask if he has to wear his black hat. Why do you assume he doesn’t?

I don’t believe you that he went swimming without his hat or at the minimum a black bathing cap instead of a Yarmulka.

    Juboy613, I was asked

If I feel comfortable answering I answer If it is above my pay grade I’d pass it on.

    This one was easy

Rebbe used to swim with his jacket, tie, and hat. Oh hold, on, that was playing baseball…

    #953744

You don’t have to wear a shirt, although a cap or something should be worn in place of a kippah. Take it from me, I’m a Rabbi (it says so in my title) B-)

I’m not sure why there would be a more stringent level on tznius than the standard bathing suit, or even “a shorter, form fitting swimsuit” when we aren’t makpid to have private mikvaos for men?

ObstacleIllusion-Good point Should one have tznius in a mikvah or lockeroom? Should he try to be covered up at all time? If not, then what is the minimum level of tznius, whether it is a mikvah or lockeroom or pool?

Speaking of swimming in suits. The rag of my sleepaway camp, every year on the first day would jump in the deep end with E/T tie, suit, shoes, hat….cuflinks?

What is the minimum amount of tznius one must have in the pool and walking outside the pool? What type of swimsuit is allowed within the boundaries of Halacha (For example, lets say one wants to swim laps and a shorter tighter swimsuit is preferred)?

I was saying to monitor your posts because spell check is changing words here and there.

You’re allowed to wear a speedo both in the water and on the pool deck. If you feel that to lounge about on the pool deck in a speedo is not bekovidik then feel free to wear a towel or robe. But in regards to halacha, it is perfectly acceptable to swim in a speedo and walk around the pool deck as well. You’re allowed to immerse in a mikva with other men present, so we don’t forbid nudity among men, but we do encourage a certain level of self-respect towards one’s body. That has much to do with the environment one is in. It is perfectly appropriate at the pool to wear a speedo.

ObstacleIllusion-what Halachik basis is there for that? What is your source?

Listen the concept is one should be as Tzanua as possible at all times. Even in the mikvah one should make every effort to be uncovered as little as possible. Additionally one should not look at the uncovered bodies of the other people there certainly not at their makom…

Regarding swimming there’s no problem wearing a normal bathing suit. As far as speedos I don’t know if they are mutar as they are revealing and the pool is not a mikvah. One may not change publicly by the pool where others will see his nakedness. If you want to see hilchos tznius check out halachafortoday dot com website. You can ask him any questions you have as he is very welcoming of questions and usually answers within a few hours.

WIY-I hear your point and that is why I questioned ObstacleIllusion. ObstacleIllusion-I am still waiting to hear your Halachik basis.

Is there such a thing as a schvimkleid for men?

Blackhatwannabe- At the moment, I can not give you proper sources in halacha. That aside, I would not trust a message board for halachic psak.

Agreed but I just wanted to know the basis behind your opinion.

See Mishnah B’rurah 2:1. Also, a speedo should always be Assur. Niddah 14b.

    ChiYid is right.

    This whole thread is bizarre.

I just want to point out that the question comes from today’s warped Hashkafa of equality. If women need Tznius why not men also? Just like WoW and their Tefillin
