Hi, I need some help. We want to move to Israel for a short while so my new husband can continue to learn in his yeshiva. We were told tha maalot Dafna was a nice ideal place to live for young American couples. I want to hear from ppl who actually live there. Do you feel comfortable there? Are the ppl friendly? Location? Any information would be helpfull.

a nice ideal place I believe the Jerusalem Light Rail runs very close to Maalot Dafna, maybe Shimon haTzadik Stop, so this clearly would make Maalot Dafna an extremely ideal place to live in.
IMO, no need for the light rail if you live in Maalot Dafna. The Mir is within walking distance as are most shops. Geulah is a 10 minute bus ride away. There are many American couples/families living in this area so you should be able to make friends if you are the least bit outgoing. The only drawback I can see is the high rent, but if that’s not an issue, then by all means, come to the Yir HaKodesh and may you both grow in ruchniyus while your husband is shteiging in yeshiva. Hi, I hope u have a lot of hatzlocha, and u should maybe go to maalot Dafna for a shabbos to check it out. My husband and I lived there for a year and we were barely recognized, ppl didn’t say hello,ppl who we saw every day, I sat in the park often alone others would sit alone also Untill their friend came or s/t. My husband couldn’t stand going to shul and no one saying good shabbos to him, you have to be part of “their e group” to fit in. We were absolutely miserable there we left with a bad taste of that neighborhood. The location is however very central, although ramat eshkol, Arzei, and sanhedria are just as central, good luck with all.
I think that since everyone already said the maaylos (no pun intended), ill stay off that part of the op question. i think its kiday to ad that after R nochum eisenstien, the next most popular rov there is R caliphon, who specializes im shalom bayis/counselling and is in high demand. nuff said. thats not hearsay, im in the shchunah often and my brother in law lives there, so i have a pretty clear picture.
pshh, azah daykan. yes. the neighborhood is a mix of americans and francs. the americans are, biderech klal, much more baalitbatish couples who mostly are the type to come for a year aid vacation in israel yes, there are some serious bnei torah among the maericans, but they are the minority in this neighborhood. mostly rich kids.
The neighborhood is a mixture of Americans and locals- I prefer to refrain from the derogatory term used by Toi. The majority of Americans there are serious bnei torah.
There is an adjoining neighborhood called Machal which has a similar mixture. There are quite a number of Americans that are living there for 5+ years. There are young couples there for there year of vacation, but those are found in Arzei and Ramat Eshkol as well
The serious bnei torah are NOT the minority at all.
Shanon- Where does your husband want to learn?
Just be aware, if it turns into a long enough time, the level of gashimius there can be held against you when registering for gan or school, if not a spiritual treat at the outset. But no worse, than say, Flatbush, or Cedarhurt.
