During this time of year, we see a lot of ads for blood drives. Boruch HaShem they continue to be successful, and it is important that people continue to take part in them. However, a lot of people do not always realize that there is another registry that is in desperate need of our participation The National Bone Marrow Registry.

What makes bone marrow donation more difficult is that a much closer genetic match is needed than for an ordinary blood donation. There are many Jewish children in treatment centers around the world that are in dire need of a suitable match. Their most likely match (outside of siblings) is in the Jewish community.

For this reason it is very important for people in our community to come to these drives and become part of the registry. New innovations have made the donation process much simpler and virtually pain-free. In fact, all you need to enter the registry is a cheek-swab.

A group of frum students at Brooklyn College will be hosting a bone marrow drive on the Brooklyn College campus. The drive will take place on Tuesday April 30th from 12:00-8:00 pm in front of Boylan Hall.

There will be no cost to anyone who participates at this registry drive. The entire process takes less then three minutes and is only necessary to be done once a life time. This is a great opportunity for anyone, not just college students, to help save a life.
