December 11, 2012 12:25 am at 12:25 am #912104ready nowParticipantPray to Hashem
Read Tehillim and Torah
Keep busy
Eat properly
Make sure that when you breathe you are not holding your breathe because of anxiety- make sure the breathing is regular.
Get off the CR- it really is a whirlpool of misery and addiction
Ask doctor for help if necessary = maybe medication (cautiously only) or counseling

Seriously, it has been found that pain relievers for physical pain often dull emotional pain.
You have two options: Distract yourself from it, or work through it. The latter is best done with a therapist or trusted confidant.
December 11, 2012 1:03 am at 1:03 am #912106SaysMeMembertalk to someone or write it out even- bottling up pain can excabberate it. Get it out, then try to stop thinking about it.
Think happy thoughts, imagine yourself relaxing at a beach etc
get busy!! Whether cleaning, cooking, crafts, reading. Neccesities or hobbies. And turn on a tape in the background if your mind wanders back.
For some, music is an amazing help. Whether to get swept up in it, daven through it, let out emotions with it…
Go do chesed. A-it may change your perspective on your pain. B-helping others makes you feel good always! Just dont sell yourself short in your mind-your goal doesnt matter, only that you are making a difference to others. This can be interactive like bikkur cholim, partners in torah, big brother/sister, or helping a family for an hour, or something ‘behind the scenes’ like packing boxes for bikkur cholim or tomchei shabbos. There is always what to do for volunteers at organizations- just ask!
Feel better!

It makes you feel so fulfilled and good about yourself that you are doing something good for other people.

December 11, 2012 3:45 am at 3:45 am #912110funnyboneParticipantAre you talking about grief or trauma? For grief, you need to talk, grieve, keep busy and give it time. I’m not saying that the grief will ever go completely away, but it will diminish.
For trauma I’d recommend asking a Rav/mentor what to do…I don’t know enough about you or the situation if counseling/medication is appropriate or if you just need time and a person to talk to.
Good luck!
