I was reading the new serial in mishpacha, recently, and i realIsed that it keeps on mentioning tHe protaginist, shaya frankel’s shoes, one week has him pounding the streets in his shabbos shoes, one week has him lacing up an old pair of nikes, a third week has him visiting his rebbe and he realises that he is wearing his sneakers, and i realsied that no other books ever mention what shoes poeple are wearing. Many will often go into details about the clothes, but none of them ever mention shoes.
I was just thinking – especially with so many guys around with shoe fever, AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO IS BOTHERED BY THIS?

Sometimes an author wants to give a very original detail to sound somewhat exotic. The problem happens when they reuse the same ‘original’ detail over and over.

Does the mishpacha count as shabbos lunch, or the shoes?
what botheres me about the story is that most the terms and ideas can only be understood by a chassidishe. How many of our posters know what “mudneh” means, or have any idea what a chassidishe shtiebel looks like on a yohrtzeit?
ybrooklyn – most frum stories can only be understood by someone on a similar level of frumkeit as the author. It is a bit unfortunate.
He has metal taps for the week and rubber. For shabbos.
I didn’t pick up on your problem until the author wrote “The next day his mother was lounging around the house in white cooton socks….” I find it remarkeable that thewre was no other reference to her clothing.
