Why does a day with a full moon (such as today) cause greater flooding during a storm, as is being forecast for today’s thunderstorm? What’s the shaychus?
Gravity of the moon.
It may have something to do with the tide — last night they said at least a foot of the water was added only cos of the tide nothing even to do with the storm.
The tides are caused by the gravitational pull of the moon. Full moon = high tides. I was awed when I first learned this.
The moon is always there. More of it being lit up doesn’t add any gravity. The reason it has an effect is that when it is full it is opposite the sun, and its pull is not countered by the sun.
