October 28, 2012 3:22 am at 3:22 am #901865The_Cool_JewMemberFor those who live in the Brooklyn area, do you think we are going to get hit hard? Are you worried about it?

October 28, 2012 4:18 am at 4:18 am #901869aurora77ParticipantI was just wondering about this myself, in reference to Shabbos and preparing for the hurricane. Are there exceptions to not working on Shabbos that apply if one must prepare for an impending, potential weather crisis? I know there is still most of Sunday before things really get started, but I have been hearing this weekend that the generators were already running out by Saturday in Lowes and such places. Being new to Orthodox Judaism, I am not sure what is considered acceptable practice. In all reality regarding the generator, I was already too late anyways — the waiting list is several hundred long now!
October 28, 2012 4:25 am at 4:25 am #901870abcd2ParticipantHashem gave us a tremendous Bracha by allowing us the technology to recognize that a very severe damaging (and in some places even life threatening)storm is coming. We should all take advantage of the calm before the storm and utilize the time wisely to ask Hashem for Rachmonus. He is the only one that can control the weather. Daven that people should not Chasvishalom suffer harm and property damage to be minimal.Even if you do not live in a storm area, many people are due to be affected please keep them in mind. For some people even a short loss of power can be catastrophic and/or economically ruinous.People lost their lives in a similarly forecasted storm (Irene)
May Hashem send Geshem of Bracha to all

October 29, 2012 5:22 pm at 5:22 pm #901876mazal77ParticipantIt’s been raining in Brooklyn for at least an hour, and the winds pick up every so often to make me nervous, like 15 minutes ago, one of my neighbors wooden succah beam that is still around, was picked up from their porch, lifted up by the winds and came down over my side of property. Hope the forecasters are wrong.
October 29, 2012 10:04 pm at 10:04 pm #901877147ParticipantMy sole & only concern:- How shall Sandy impact on the US Presidential election outcome?
October 30, 2012 2:54 pm at 2:54 pm #901878MediumThinkerMemberWhat is a lemba?
October 30, 2012 7:38 pm at 7:38 pm #901879YW Moderator-18ModeratorIn case anyone cares, Ceaser’s Bay Bazaar will be closed for the foreseeable future due to damage from Sandy. Atlantic Mall is also closed today except for Target.
October 30, 2012 10:19 pm at 10:19 pm #901880YW Moderator-42ModeratorI don’t really care but thanks for sharing 🙂
Amazon is still opened so we’re all good.
For anyone who cares, lembas are elven waybread from The Lord of the Rings.
October 31, 2012 11:00 am at 11:00 am #901881just my hapenceParticipantMod-42 – Lembas IS, not lembas ARE. It is the name of the type of bread, like granary, and pronounced ‘lem – bass’ not ‘lem – bers’ (which would have indicated a plural of lemba). And I would stock up on Discworld Dwarf-bread rather than lembas, as it lasts as long, is just as filling and is handy as a weapon for when the zombies attack.
October 31, 2012 1:22 pm at 1:22 pm #901882OneOfManyParticipant+1 to the dwarf bread. ^_^
November 1, 2012 3:34 am at 3:34 am #901883YW Moderator-42ModeratorI should have wrote “is”.
