New technology may eventually make Metro-Cards obsolete.
The MTA was rolling out a new smart card pilot program Tuesday that allows riders to pass a key chain, credit card or phone across a special reader.
The fare would be withdrawn from a registered bank account, much like the EZ Pass system.
It’s supposed to be quicker and more efficient than Metro-Cards.
The pilot program will run for six months on the Lexington Avenue subway line and eight bus routes in Manhattan.
