Yup.
August 29, 2012 5:41 pm at 5:41 pm #893937HaLeiViParticipantMy post over there is still pending, so I’ll try it here:
Regardless of the speaches spoken,
the advertized goal was to promote
responsibility and use of filters. That
point went over very well.
the food you bought at a grocery you
buy there again the next day. If
The success was partly because
people understood the message of
the advertizement and ignored the
statements that would have been
bring them up.
August 29, 2012 6:17 pm at 6:17 pm #893938Feif UnParticipantWhat I’d like to know is how many people were more than just inspired. Did anyone on the CR actually go out and buy a new filter for their computer? Did anyone change the way they do things on their computer, and did the change last?
August 29, 2012 7:38 pm at 7:38 pm #893939WIYMemberUnfortunately there was tons of background politics (the yetzer hora at work) that severely crippled the asifa and ruined an occasion that really could have been much more of a success. I dont view it as a failure chas veshalom but its a small success when it could have been a smashing success.
At the end of the day what was accomplished is awareness and by now most people know how to go about getting a filter although I do think there should have been more of a push to get info to every shul about filter options.
August 29, 2012 7:42 pm at 7:42 pm #893940popa_bar_abbaParticipantFeif: Yes, people who work in software supply reported an immediate and dramatic increase in filter sales and installation. I have this information first hand. Ask anyone you know.

Yes I got K9 and have someone who works for http://www.guardyoureyes.com/index.php to connect to my pc with team viewer and to create the password. If I ever need to change something, block or unblock something…I email him, he is generally available to help me within a few hours of when I email him.

There is always background politics, but the Agudah handled the complaints and didn’t let them detract from the Siyum.
August 29, 2012 9:05 pm at 9:05 pm #893944icedMemberAnd the same with the Asifa. It was a thundering success.
August 29, 2012 9:11 pm at 9:11 pm #893945zahavasdadParticipantThe Asifa was a huge failure in no part because the message wasnt clear, the message was very clear at the Siyum and people left satisfied and inspired
People left the Asifa puzzled and werent exactly sure what the message was
August 29, 2012 9:26 pm at 9:26 pm #893946icedMemberThe message the Gedolei Yisroel gave at the Asifa was very clear.
1. The Internet is dangerous.
2. The Internet is a necessary utility for many — but not all — people.
3. For those who don’t have a critical need for it, should have no internet.
4. For those who do have a critical need for it, intall filters.
Filters were specifically mentioned by a majority of the speakers. Not to mention the workshops setup by Ichud Hakehillos to help the community install filters.
August 29, 2012 10:58 pm at 10:58 pm #893947zahavasdadParticipantOne of the amazing things about technology is while before one could lie about really occured, but with almost everyone carrying a portable video camera. Speeches can be video taped and uploaded to Youtube and re-watched over and over.
There can be no doubt what was actually said.
August 30, 2012 12:08 am at 12:08 am #893948icedMemberExactly.
I suggest that everyone watch the full Asifa. It is well worth your time. (Of course you will need to understand Yiddish for 50% of the speeches. But if you are a non-Yiddish speaker, you will need someone who understands Yiddish to tell you what is being said for half the speeches.)
August 30, 2012 1:15 am at 1:15 am #893949WIYMemberIt is certainly worthwhile to watch Rav Wachsmans Drasha again. Really a spectacularly powerful drasha.
August 30, 2012 2:28 am at 2:28 am #893950zahavasdadParticipantIts more understandable than you think.. Todays Yiddish is more Yinglish, but if there is any issue, Mom always knows best especially if she spoke yiddish as a first language
August 30, 2012 2:41 pm at 2:41 pm #893953BaalHaboozeParticipantI have unplugged my interne service as soon as i got home after hearing the psak halachah that a jewish home is forbidden to have unfiltered internet. The following week my wife and I got K9 filter installed and all is well.
As far as the article is concerned, I think the idea of setting up a public area to use computers is radical etc, and I think that from the asifas’ message, 100 days ago and on, really is now upon each and every individual’s responsibility. There’s just so much Rabbonim can do. They did their part. The rest is upon you.
