Now that camp season has come to an end..(so sad) does anyone remember their camp Alma mater songs from years past? I was in Camp Torah Voddas in 1979,the year the dining room burnt down, and will never forget those great songs.. I actually saved my color war song sheets and have all the lyrics. Maybe we can post some songs to share..

Anu Bnei Morasha (bum, bum, bum, bum)
Yerushateinu Hee haTorah (bym, bum, bum, bum)
B’darcheha neileich kol yameinu
U’nekayeim mitzvoteha.
Rotz ka-tzvi
Gibor ka-ari
B’chol mitzvot haTorah (bum, bum, bum, bum)
K’dei shenizkeh l’ziv HaShechinah
B’Yerushalayim habenuyah.

The flames of the fire
ignited a spark in my heart
A spirit of Achdus
That will never part
Our feelings for you now
Are stronger than we can belive
Oh dear CTV,
how can we leave….
We had some great songwriters, Reb Motti Finkelman and his brothers Dovid & Shimon, Rabbi Nosson Newman, Reb Joey Langer, and lets not forget our great camp director, Mr. Newhouse, who always made a great entrance to the judges skit at the grand sing!!!
PS Where were you while our dining room burnt down in 1979? It happened to be “Hike day” so most people were off camp grounds, mamish alot of Nissim that day!!!
August 23, 2012 3:03 pm at 3:03 pm #893520BaalHaboozeParticipantYOSSI151 – CTV was the greatest camp in the mountains!! I was there much after you, but with guys like Shloime Dachs, Rabbi Finkelman, etc and how can we forget Mr. Newhouse! So many talented, great people, so many great memories…
Yatzmich – was there too!! Do you remember “the french mirage” story?
August 23, 2012 3:52 pm at 3:52 pm #893521TheGoqParticipantThe Campptown ladies sing this song,
Doo-da, Doo-da
The Camptown racetrack’s five miles long
Oh, de doo-da day
Goin’ to run all night
Goin’ to run all day
I bet my money on a bob-tailed nag
Somebody bet on the gray
Oh, the long tailed filly and the big black horse,
Doo-da, doo-da
Come to a mud hole and they all cut across,
Oh, de doo-da day
Goin’ to run all night
Goin’ to run all day
I bet my money on a bob-tailed nag
Somebody bet on the gray
I went down there with my hat caved in,
Doo-da, doo-da
I came back home with a pocket full of tin
Oh, de doo-da day
Goin’ to run all night
Goin’ to run all day
I bet my money on a bob-tailed nag
Somebody bet on the gray
August 23, 2012 4:04 pm at 4:04 pm #893522DaMosheParticipantI remember that one year I was in Chaim Day Camp (in Brooklyn), and the alma mater went like this:
8 weeks in the summer
the good times that I always had
sports and activities
they went by so fast
Oh Chaim Day Camp
the one thing I really will miss
is the spirit of achdus
and ruchniyus
Some guys decided to make a spoof, and it went like this:
8 weeks what a bummer
the good times that we never had
sports and activities
thank G-d they went by so fat
Oh Chaim Day Camp
the one thing that we really missed
was the spirit
of Ruach-niyus
(for those who don’t know, Ruach Day Camp was the “other” day camp in Brooklyn at the time. This was before Temimah, Ohr Shraga, and other were around.)
August 23, 2012 11:20 pm at 11:20 pm #893523YW Moderator-42ModeratorI don’t remember all the stanzas but here is one song I remember:
TTTO Mimkomcha:
Yossi, tomorrow will be your first time
You’ll be in Camp Mogen Av
Don’t worry, remember I was nervous too
As I share sweet memories that I had.
…
High part:
Those summers as a child are trapped in my heart
Fond memories still make me cry
I give you this treasure, enrich your whole life
You’ll never forget just like I I I…

We’ve existed so long
For the Torah kept us strong
And the Torah will never disappear- oh,
no
Through the ages it was brought
By the children, who were taught
To follow it and constantly declare
I’m a Jew and I’m proud
And I’ll sing it out loud
‘Cuz forever that’s what I’ll be
I’m a Jew and I’m proud
And it’s without a doubt
That [Hashem] (The Rebbe) is always
Watching over me

August 24, 2012 6:39 pm at 6:39 pm #893529zen3344ParticipantFrom my eight years (okay, maybe 7) at the Young Israel of Bedford Bay – and some 30 years later, I remember this (forgive me Rabbi Pollack):
Fly paper, fly paper ooey, gooey goo.
Fly paper, fly paper always sticks to you.
A man was standing by the sewer
And by the sewer he died.
They didn’t know what to call it,
So the called it “sewer-cide”.
Fly paper, fly paper ooey, gooey goo.
Fly paper, fly paper always sticks to you.
A man was standing by his house,
And by his house he died.
They didn’t know what to call it,
So the called it “home-i-cide”.
Fly paper, fly paper ooey, gooey goo.
Fly paper, fly paper always sticks to you.
I woke up in the morning and looked upon the wall,
The roaches and the bedbugs were playing a game of ball.
The score was six to nothing, the roaches were ahead.
The bedbugs hit a grand-slam that knocked me out of bed.
Fly paper, fly paper ooey, gooey goo.
Fly paper, fly paper always sticks to you.
A man was standing by the tracks
And didn’t see the train.
Yisgadal v’yisgadach sh’mei rabah, amen.
Hey, fly paper, fly paper ooey, gooey goo.
Fly paper, fly paper always sticks to you.
August 24, 2012 6:42 pm at 6:42 pm #893530YW Moderator-42ModeratorCHORUS
Ain’t gonna work on Saturday
Ain’t gonna work on Saturday
Double, double, triple pay
Won’t make me work on Saturday
Ain’t gonna work on Saturday
It’s shabbos kodesh
Repeat chorus after each stanza.
I’m big Gedalia Goomber
I’m not exactly small
But really not so very big
Just seventeen feet tall
I’m really rigged for working
For that I’m very fit
Six days a week I’m at it
And on the seventh day I quit
I once helped raise a building
And on the hundredth floor
I was carrying a load of bricks
An easy ton or more
And her, it’s late on Friday
I knew I’d have to stop
So I yelled, “Watch out below!”
And let the whole thing drop
At driving a locomotive
I thought I’d take a crack
I had the throttle wide open
Zooming down the track
And here it’s almost shabbos
The sun’s about to set
So I dove into a mud hole
And the train is running yet
I worked down in a coal mine
And lost myself alright
I couldn’t tell the days apart
Because there was no light
So I set myself to digging
Just as fast as you may please
And popped up in an hour
Where the people speak chinese
I had a job a dandy
On a construction crew
A great big mountain had us stuck
We couldn’t dig it through
And soon it will be shabbos
But not say I’m proud
I took that stubborn mountain
And kicked it on a cloud
I turned to deep-sea diving
And took an awful chance
On a sunken steamer’s deck
I got caught by my pants
And trapped beneath the ocean
I couldn’t set me free
But I went home for shabbos
And dragged the boat with me
I once was an explorer
To Africa I went
One shabbos hungry lions
Came roaring round my tent
My assistant held my rifel
“Go Goomber shoot these pests.”
But I called them in instead
To be my shabbos guest
Once to split an atom
With effort I had learned
Suddenly there was a blast
boy did I get burned
Everyone was so worried
So the doctors I did tell
That by keeping the shabbos holy
I will soon be fit and well
I worked at Cape Kennedy
And things were going right
A great big rocket ship was set
On a launching site
And here it’s getting dark
Shabbos was coming soon
So I pushed the starting button
And spent shabbos on the moon
I once was an astronaut
And flying through the stars
I came across a space ship
Whose pilots were from Mars
I said “Hello there Martians”
And stayed with them
Until I taught them to keep the shabbos
And they’re keeping shabbos still
I dress my best on shabbos
Three meals I feast me fine
I make a royal kiddush
On a barrel full of wine
And when I sing my zemiros
For a thousand miles they know
That I’m enjoying shabbos
For hashem has told us so
August 24, 2012 6:55 pm at 6:55 pm #893531YW Moderator-42ModeratorThe little is calling, it wishes to return.
The little bird is wounded, it cannot fly
but yearn.
It’s captured by the vultures, crying
bitterly”
“Oh, to see my nest again, oh to be
redeemed.”
The little bird of silver, so delicate and
rare,
Still chirps among the vultures,
outshining all that’s there.
How long, how long it suffers, how long
will it be
When will come the eagle and set the
little bird free
The little bird is yisroel, the vultures are
our foes.
The painful wound is golus, which we all
feel and know.
The nest is yerushalaim, where we yearn
to be once more.
And the eagle is moshiach, whom we are
waiting for.
August 24, 2012 7:02 pm at 7:02 pm #893532oomisParticipantMod 42, my all time favorite camp sung song was the Little Bird. In fact, I was a counselor at Camp HASC MANY MANY years ago, and used that song for our finale when my campers put on a special play about the zechus of the birds during Yetzias Mitzrayim, for flying over Bnei Yisrael and being a protective “umbrella” for them. When I wrote the play, I was searching for an appropriate song to end it, and this one just filled the bill perfectly. I still get teary-eyed whenever I hear it.

Sadah- This song we sang in camp and I rlly need info. on it…this was also mentioned a few times on page 26 of this thread….someone said they thought the prospect park sing this
HEY what’s the name of this song and whoose it by:
High up on a mountain, far across the sea,
all the busy creatures scurry frantically.
Above them soars the eagle, flying towards the distant light,
not a glance back at the shadows as he spreads his wings in flight.
The world thats all around me calls me to join in.
Its glamour seems to beckon but my beauty lies within.
I want to soar like the eagleand live a better life.
I want to be a bas yisroel, a mother, and a wife.
Can I rise above the glitter, continuing the chain?
a thousand grandmothers before me, their mission not in vain.
Will my children ever look at me and try to emulate?
Will they take pride in their tradition, an inheritance so great?
Will the shechina have a place inside the person I become?
“v’asu li mikdash v’shachanti b’socham”
Can I follow Das Yehudis as I was meant to be?
Am i the link to the future; the answer lies in me.
In my mind, I see a woman, a treasure in her heart.
There’s a special air about her in the way she stands apart.
Her fortress, bayis neeman, protects her family,
and I know this is my future. This vision, yes, it’s me.
I can rise above the glitter, continuing the chain,
a thousand grandmothers before me, their mission not in vain.
Yes, my children will look at me and try to emulate.
They will take pride in their tradition, an inheritance so great.
Yes, the shechina has a place inside the person I’ve become.
“v’asu li mikdash v’shachanti b’socham”
I can follow Das Yehudis as I was meant to be.

The sun will soon go down

There’s so much to accomplish still
There’s so much more to do
Though caught within our world
We pause along the way
Recharge our souls, uplift our world
as joyfully we pray
So join us we lift up our eyes
and our heartfelt tefillos ascend to the skies
And we focus on our purpose and then we will
Daven the tefillah of mincha again
So join us as we lift up our voices
Cuz when we pray our neshama rejoices

“so take each other by the hand and sing along with me
although we’re from all over, we are one family
created and united, each girl plays a part
Raninu I will cherish you-deep inside my heart”
and if you’re old enough, do you have the words to this song? it was the theme of the play one year and I only have the refrain from the end
“I’m finding my way, i’m finding myself
there is so much more to learn
I look at my face, and I see a girl
smiling in return
Each one of us has our very own path
a life that we must lead
I no longer need to fill bigger shoes, in order to fee complete
High:
freed from the shadows hear my call
i’m being the best that i can be
now others cannot make me feel small
I’m finally happy being me”

No I’m not THAT old but in last years end of the summer book they put in your first song!
One of my favorite songs!
Its two girls hand and hand, a smile on each face
Its the thoughtful conversation, that you never will erase
Its the friendship and the laughter, the ruach and the fun
its the seperate individuals that together become ONE
Its the achdus and the ruchniyus that help us grow each day
its the constast dedication that is always sent our way
Its the warm and dozy atmosphere whereever you may roam
Its the place that we call RANINU our home away from home
So take each other by the hand and sing along with me
Cuz although were from all over we are family
created and untied each girl played a part
RANINU I cherish you deep inside my heart
Did they have the shabbos song back then? You know…”there is a camp called raninu and every shabbos this is what they do…..”

thanks for the lyrics. Beth was there from at least year 5-I think she wrote that song in year 5. the version I remember is a little different but very similar. now the question is do you know the mosquito spoof?
and they were singing the shabbos song in year 6 and it was well known then too so its an older one
1 is be quiet, dont start a riot
2 is OD, how good can you be
3 is ruach singing and cheering
4 is kavana in your davening
5 is on time and thats the rhyme
be quiet, ____, ____, be on time and sing!
the mincha song is also nice, IMHO nicer than the shacharis song

If anyone needs lyrics to ANY raninu song I have all the packets! I even stole one of the ones with a bunch of songs that you weren’t supposed to keep (they use them every year) I also have the packet of the nine days songs I believe they only started that around 7 years back…..
My most prized raninu possetions is my raninu cup collection, they use them at the washing station and only make a few extra every year, they are VERY hard to get since your not suppposed to take them!
