So as many of us know, you are supposed to trust Hashem regarding Parnasa 100%. As long as a person puts in the effort – the parnasa will always be there.
So my question is this – if you truly – completely rely on Hashem to give you parnasa, and you make your efforts for it. Is asking your boss for a raise running counter to this belief? I mean, you are working, you are putting the effort. If Hashem wants me to make more money I’ll make it one way or another. But is asking for a raise counter to this concept?

You are supposed to pray that the shot works, not that Hashem will heal you by itself

But if one has true faith in G-d, and knows that G-d does what is best for him, he will be happy with his portion. And that is considered wealth.
July 23, 2012 8:16 pm at 8:16 pm #887959repharimMember@middlePath this is exactly the contradiction I am trying to deal with right now. On one hand yes it could be considered part of “my effort”…(although asking for a raise really doesn’t take effort) and on the other hand i should trust him that i am getting exactly what i should be getting and should be happy with what I have.
July 23, 2012 8:45 pm at 8:45 pm #887960BustercrownParticipantAsking for a raise is the natural Hishtadlus a person should put into their everyday efforts. Whether you get the raise or not is up to Hashem.

Hashem wants us to do Hishtadlus which means doing everything that is reasonable to attain parnassah.

July 23, 2012 11:00 pm at 11:00 pm #887963MiddlePathParticipantrepharim, thats a great question. I think it’s not a contradiction because it all depends on the reasons behind everything. If you feel you need the raise to help your family, and help yourself grow in your service of G-d, then you should put in the effort to get to that point. And that is not an indication that you aren’t happy with what you have, because one should always feel that there is room to grow spiritually, and be looking for ways to make his family happy. If however, you feel the need to ask for a raise and to have more money because of jealousy or peer pressure, or for your self esteem, then that is not a healthy source. And that means you aren’t happy with what you have.
