HI, I just recently got married and I am in the process of decorating our apartment. I wanted to put pictures of gedloim up in one of our walls but couldnt decide who should go up. My husband and I decided that we would put up the gedolim who had opposing views with one another. For example: the vilna gaon and the baal shem tov. rav shach and the lubavitcher rebbe. Please can anyone give us more pairs of gedolim like this?

How about the Lubavitcher Rebbe and virtually anyone else. Pretty much the same, although not quite as extreme on Rav Kook and anyone else.

A thread to be proud of. Certainly since it was started on a taanis.

Hi meidel! Mazel Tov on your recent marriage! To help make your new home a place of shalom bayis, peace & tranquility, why don’t you hang pictures of gedolim that are meaningful to you & your husband? Gedolim with opposing views, as you put it, are likely to have had followers who turned the opposition into something more belligerent & less spiritual than may have been intended originally. Especially now, during the 3 weeks, we should avoid putting our differences & machlokos out there for everyone to see & discuss. Good luck decorating!

I took this idea of yours but mixed it around a bit. Instead of specifically putting them next to each other I have all of the rabbanim mixed on the wall. Also since I’m a graphic designer I had tonz of fun putting the pictures next to names and a short description coz I actually like to know what was so great about each Rav next to the picture.

    Thanks for the inspiration OP!

    golfer,

I would argue that the OP’s idea is great especially in the three weeks.

Since they are not considering the fact that there are followers that are engaged in Machlokes, in fact they want to disregard the entire machlokes and have both Gedolim.

If you want opposites, how about a picture of you and your hubby on the same wall.

Chassidishe Gatesheader: Doesn’t work, the Divrei Yoel wasn’t a major figure until well after Rav Kook passed away.

Which Rav Soloveichik? The Rov (Reb Velvel) or Reb Chaim Brisker?

Choppy: He clearly meant neither. (Well, some people call him the Rov, but they don’t mean Rav Velvel.)

The Brisker Rov was always known as The Rov (or Der Rov). Even in Europe.

Don’t put up the “Baal Shem Tov” picture. It is not him and it isn’t necesssarily someone you want a picture of.

There are prints of the Rishonim (Rif, Rashi, Rambam, Rabbenu Tam, Rosh, Tur, etc…) still available.

choppy — It’s a printed poster called “Geonei Yisrael Rishonim VeAcharonim”, published by Sinai Printing and it’s usually found as a Sukka poster. It has 20 mini portraits from the Ri”f to the Chasam Sofer. It may be out of print. Unfortunately, it is/was laminated which makes it very difficult to plaque-mount, the only other option would be to custom frame (it’s about 20″x26″ roughly).

RT: What gives you the idea the images are even remotely authentic?
