Oh cherrybim, classic saying that something’s assur when you have no idea what you’re talking about. Why is it assur for men to go and not women? Is it bc of tznius reasons? Then men shouldn’t be allowed to work in the city either!

KFB, for parnassa there is sometimes a heter to go somewhere otherwise permitted. Here there is no such heter.

Just because you do not support something or agree with it does not make it assur. There may be girls getting coffee at dunkin donuts the same time as my husband..ah! assur.

If you are so into achdus as the asifa, then you would go to the parade.

Are cherrybim and Kfb part of a different religion than yours cause they support Israel? That’s what you make it sound like.

Btw I went to last years parade but not going this year as I don’t see a need to celebrate a country that kicks Jews out of their homes.

250,000 Jews a REAL Asifa and there were all kinds there unlike other events and none of the revelers were forced to attend (Maybe the kids MARCHING in the parade were forced, but not the spectator)

Were the glbt toeiva marchers marching under their rainbow banner, as they usually do at the Israel Parade?

Zahavasdad this was free entertainment event so 250k compared to 50k paying customers to hear mussar is an even draw id say if that.

Alot of people did not pay for the Asifa (I didnt pay for Asifa tickets), for many the tickets were free , discounted and the transportation was heavily discounted especially from Lakewood.

I belive bus tickets from Lakewood was like $10 each round trip.

And even if you did pay for the Asifa, $10 is basically nothing anyway

To the Asifa 60,000 people plus tens of thousands more in other cities and women in NY via cctv feeds, came to hear mussar not entertainment

How often do people come to a 5 hour mussar shmooze by almost the 100,000’s?

$10 isnt much but what were they paying for? entertainment? no a good time? no, to hear from our leaders to teach us how to live our lives. In that context i think 50k is more impressive than 250k.

cherrybim:- It is a much bigger Mitzwah for men to go to this parade with their wife & family, than having to leave their poor wife all alone at home during the Asifah.

It was great, and haShem held off the rain until after the wonderful parade.

The parade had 35,000 participants, mostly from MO day schools. It had an official marching band for toeivaniks, under the banner Jewish Queer Youth. And it had women singers performing.

Cherrybim or health- please answer my question! Why is assur to go?? Is it bc of supporting the state of Israel or bc of tzniyus reasons or bc of bitul Torah??? Which reason is it?

The Concert has no Female Singers

There were 35,000 MARCHERS. The 250,000 was the crowd watching from the sidelines.

I belong to what some would call the right wing yeshivish world. My kids go to single-sex schools that do not celebrate Yom HaAtzmaut, much less march in the parade. And I am very pleased with the how my kids are taught about Yiddishkeit and to love it.

That being said, I grew up in the MO world where twice a year the Jewish world got together to support a unified cause. The Salute to Israel Day Parade, and Solidarity Sunday, when we rallied in support of Soviet Jewry. I was a marshall every year, collecting signatures, getting people to donate, or write telegrams of support. They were both amazing days that really showed a level of achdus among all stripes of Jews.

It’s very nice to talk about the achdus of the Asifa, but the truht is that the only people represented at the Asifa were people on the far right of the spectrum, both Chassidish and Litvish. And while it was very nice to see achdus in the sense of people getting together on an issue that affects us (regardless of your position), it was not a showing of achdus or love among different types of Jews.

Most of the kids in these right wing schools have little if any exposure to Jews who are less frum than themselves. And while I understand the fears of parents who do not want their children influenced – fears I share – I feel that it is very imprtant for my kids to know that there are all sorts of Jews out there who love and support Israel and are in fact our brothers and sisters.

Yes, there are issues with Medinat Yisrael, as opposed to Eretz Yisroel. But that should not prevent us from joining our fellow Jews and showing our support for the Jewish homeland.

Anyone and everyone is yelling about kiruv and reaching out to unaffiliated Jews. What could be a better way and place to show that we are not so different and that we actually agree on some things? Where is there a better opportunity to make a kiddush Hashem? You don’t like the group marching or what they stand for? Don’t clap for them. Engage their supporters in a respectful diolague. But failure to show up is a missed opportunity, both for ourselves and our children.

Health, I’m glad to see that you agree with me.

“Is it bc of supporting the state of Israel”

Israel is great, we proclaim that at least three times a day.

    “bc of tzniyus reasons”

Yes, why muddy up a mitzva with marchers who look like zonas.

    “or bc of bitul Torah”

    People need to relax sometimes.

    And therefore?

“Btw I went to last years parade but not going this year as I don’t see a need to celebrate a country that kicks Jews out of their homes.”

What? And they only started doing this within the last year?

    Ever hear of Gush Katif?

So health- give me a reason then instead of blabbing something’s assur. I think it’s assur for me to go bc I might curse and get in a fight w the Arab loving “Jews” who call themselves neturei karta.

Don’t you read the response post? I gave you three.

“I think it’s assur for me to go bc I might curse and get in a fight w the Arab loving “Jews” who call themselves neturei karta.”

If you think it’s only the NK who love Arabs -you are sadly mistaken. Half of Israelis love arabs and they are called leftists.

Health I was the one who answered for you and you said yea all those reasons.

You’re right the Israeli left are Arab loving but they don’t even associate themselves with Judaism, and don’t look like Jews.

NK makes such a chillul Hashem!!

i attended and it was wonderful. i did not see female performers at the concert.i found it heartwarming to see so many marchers and spectators out there supporting Israel. I loved seeing the new ambulances that were in the parade and will be ehading to MDA after the parade. i loved seeing all the hatzolah guys from different neighborhoods working together as well.

remarkable how well people can get along .

better than the people on this board, thats for sure.

not everyone has to like the idea of the parade but they should not demean it either. diff strokes for diff folks

I have to ask again why was this event not advertised on places like YWN and Yated were they trying to keep certain types out of the parade?

i was not at the asifah.

i know its hard for you to believe but i was totally unaware of female dancers at the parade. i watch the elected officials and the schools and floats. i watch the people on stilts, the motorcycle riders and things like that. i dont look for female or male dancers. i go in support of Israel.

i run into people that i havent seen in ages. matter of fact this year i met a person i had not seen or spoken to in 30 plus years. it was nice to see her again. we discussed our children, husbands etc.
