The topic was brought up recently here.
The Gemara tells us that the second Beis Hamikdash had Yerei’im Ushleimim, but the Churban was due to Sinas Chinam. The Ramban says that the Tochacha in Mishne Torah is about our Galus. There it is mentioned, Tachas Asher Lo Avadeta… Besimcha. People often say that we need to fix up that problem of Sinas Chinam for Moshiach to come. However, from the Torah it seems, according to the Ramban at least, that there is more to it.
The Maharal explains that the first Bayis was in the merit of the Avos. Therefore, when we lost the connection to the Maala of the Avos, by commiting the three major Chata’im we lost the Bayis. The second Bayis was for the Madreiga of Am Yisroel, and therefore was lost when we lost the connectivity that kept us as one.
Being that the third Bayis is on another level completely it is not based on re-doing what was undone; it is something new.
Chazal say that if Klal Yisroel were to keep two Shabbosos in a row the Geula would be here. We also find many references to the idea of Teshuva bringing the Geula. Shabbos is, after all, a time for Teshuva, as many Sefarim mention. Shabbos is Me’en Olam Haba. Keeping two is relating to the point to which Shabbos coresponds, the Shabbos and its message. That point is Olam Haba, which is the Mekor of the possibilty of Teshuva.
There is a Machlokes Rebbe Eliezer and Rebbe Yehoshua if Klal Yisroel will do Teshuva and bring Moshiach or if Hashem will create a scenario that will cause us to do Teshuva.
So, it seems like Teshuva, more than anything else is what brings Moshiach.
There is also the famous and widely quoted Zohar Hakadosh that learning Toras Hanistar will bring Moshiach. On that note, the Or Hachayim Hakadosh says that Moshiach is Moshe Rabbeinu and that it will be through Limud Hatorah.
We know that in Mitzrayim the Jews reached 49 levels of Tuma and had they reached 50 C”V there would be no turning back. I remeber seeing that in our Galus, since we have the Torah, we will be taken out from even the 50th level.
Perhaps, to wrap it all up, we can say that in the Zechus of Torah we will be taken out through Teshuva. This will all happen very soon, Bimheira Biyameinu.

May 23, 2012 6:28 pm at 6:28 pm #894041ZeesKiteParticipantSeriously speaking, there’s a tefilla some say on Yomim Noraim, just as the Chazzan says ????? ??????. I haven’t it in front of me, but I do recall the preface with some earlier source – ??? ?? ????? ?????.. It’s referring to subjects discussed at the Asifa.
May 23, 2012 9:34 pm at 9:34 pm #894042cherrybimParticipantThere is no doubt in my mind that the Moshiach will be announced all over the world to everyone at precisely the same instant, via the Internet.
May 23, 2012 11:44 pm at 11:44 pm #894043HaLeiViParticipantNow that you remind me, the Shaalos Teshuvos Min Shamayim says that the Arichas Hagalus is because of the Baalei Tefila that don’t Tovel Tvilas Ezra.
Also, Reb Pinchos Koritzer, I think, was told that it’s because people aren’t Maarich by Ahavas Olam.
May 24, 2012 6:53 pm at 6:53 pm #894045lakewhutParticipantreal achdus will be a start. Not only achdus between litvaks and hasiddim from BP, Williamsburg, etc.
May 24, 2012 8:10 pm at 8:10 pm #894047HaLeiViParticipantActually the Maharal, in Netzach Yisroel describes Machlokes as a symptom of the Galus rather than a cause. He says that if we were all together that in itself would dissolve the Galus. Therefore it is part of the Gezeira of Galus to separate us.
The good news is that obviously, when Moshiach comes, this phenomenon will disappear.
May 25, 2012 5:27 pm at 5:27 pm #894049HealthParticipantYes, all this is brought down. The C.C. has a prereq for Moshiach to come. I’ll transliterate what he wrote:
“As long as we don’t fix up this Chet (LH) -how can we have the Geulah – since this Chet is so damaging (Pogum) – because of it we left EY -so for sure it won’t let us return to our land?…
If so we are forced to fix up this Chet (LH) before the Geulah!”

August 28, 2012 5:39 pm at 5:39 pm #894051nannyMemberWell, everyone knows the reason for the 2nd Beis Hamikdosh’s destruction was Sinas Chinam. Unfortunately we still have that problem. Obviously the only solution to bring Moshiach is Achdus.

Yes; and it seems people aren’t even embarrassed to criticize strangers. I was in a different town for Shabbos and a stranger came up and offered me some criticism. Not being “Don people L’caf Zecus” is based on Sinas Chinum.
I also witnessed s/o telling off s/o else about the fact that his little boy wasn’t wearing a Yalmulka.
I was always told – “If you have nothing nice to say – then don’t say anything!”
August 28, 2012 8:37 pm at 8:37 pm #894053HaLeiViParticipantInteresting usage of the semicolon. Have you seen that someplace?
August 29, 2012 2:56 am at 2:56 am #894054nannyMemberYou see what I mean?! Its so sad!
August 29, 2012 7:57 pm at 7:57 pm #894055WIYMemberIt bothers me too when I see peoples kids without a yarmulka but instead of screaming at the parents you can nicely tell the kid to put on his yarmulka.
You should know when I see Jewish kids fighting or doing something wrong, I often go over and tell them in a very friendly non threatening tone of voice that “Jewish kids or (Yiddishe kiderlach if they are chassidish) dont act this way” they usually get the message.

Do you go over to three year olds?
This kid was barely 3. So the guy had to call out the father. I don’t think it was any of his business. People take Kol Yisroel Aravim etc. too far.
And the biggest joke is (I just thought of this now, btw) we have people like me, who can’t afford tuition and there is noone in the Frum community to help.
You know where the word Arave comes from? The Gemorra uses for s/o to guarantee s/o else’s loan. I realize from the other topic just started about tuition that there are many people who can’t
afford tuition. And there are many people living in the lap of luxury who just finished their big summer vacations.
So before all you “Aravim” start giving Mussar to other Jews -how about being an Arave with other Jews in their financial lackings?
And to spell it out because a lot of rich people have no clue what poor people are lacking – poor people need food, clothing, shelter, school tuition, insurance, etc. (I’m not listing every basic necessity, but you get the gist.)
