They really are!! It’s starting to get me nervous. I used to be a 7.5 and now I’m a 6. I had to get a whole new shoe collection (not that I’m complaining or anything but…). It happened over the last year. Is this normal or at least semi-normal?

Look on the bright side… You might get that glass slipper on yet!

I have never heard of going down shoe sizes like that besides very old people like in their 70s start shrinking, which is very far from your age. Otherwise no. To give me a better picture, please tell me what decade you were born in

“To give me a better picture, please tell me what decade you were born in”

But then you’ll know almost how old I am! So I’ll widen the range- Late 80’s-Early 90’s.

If you are in your late 80s-early 90s then its quite normal for your feet to have shrunk. You’ve nothing to worry about. But if you meant you were born in late 80s-early 90s then you have not widened the range. Thats also ten years but I do not know anyone that age who has this problem. Are you sure you really were a 7.5 and were not measured wrongly?

    “Thats also ten years”

Yeah, I realized after I posted it lol.

OneOfMany- Being a 6 isn’t bad, I love it because I always loved small feet. But my sister is a 5-5.5 and it’s nearly impossible for her to find shoes. So I’m just hoping this shrinking business stops now because I don’t want to have to buy all my shoes in the childrens section!

    #870587

cinderella, i was gonna ask you the same question about having lost weight- that’s what happened to me, i lost weight and went from a size 7 to a size 6. One of Many, i totally agree!!!!! 🙂

It happened to my daughter when she was 18. She wore a size 9 1/2 and went down almost 2 sizes. What happened was , her feet were totally flat and at that age she developed an arch in her foot, which shortened her shoe size.

No, it really did happen to me! I didn’t even realize I posted it on April 1st. But I’m happy to report that I am now a stable 6. And I found 2 pairs of really pretty heels that fit me at Nine West.

    #870596

cinderella, are you serious? Thats weird your name is cinderella too, with that whole parsha you had with the prince and the step sisters. anyways, I actually wanted to share with you all that i have the EXACT opposite problem. after each baby i find that my feet grow 1/2 a shoe size larger. I blame it on the hormones.

ARWSR – Blame it on your feet spreading due to the extra weight from the, ahem, baby. Having your feet grow is very common during/after pregnancy.

PS – Great to see you back

OneOfMany- Be careful!! Nine West is one of my favorite shoe stores. You don’t want to go knocking it now, do you?

    Shticky- 😀

ARWSF-It is common for feet to grow during pregnancy but they should go back to normal after.

If she knocks it then people will stop going, which will mean more shoes for you.

heh heh. Though I actually was knocking brand retail stores. Much cheaper to get ’em Nine West shoes at Nordstrom Rack or Marshalls. (I like Nine West too. :P)

Ooh, I love Cole Haan! Also Stuart Weitzman.

I do agree with you about them being more expensive in an outlet store. But sometimes it’s worth it because they have all the sizes and colors…

Cindy –Guess what? You think you have problems – My brain is shrinking. That’s right – a lot of organs & organ systems get smaller as we age. Aging starts about 30 -35 years of age.

Hey cinderella, did you any nice wedges while you were shopping? Something springish, maybe beige…I looked and looked before Y”T but couldn’t find anything – all too strappy or MUCH too platformy. 🙁

Sometimes I look around online…but you have to try shoes on before you can buy them.

I used to have a fear of buying shoes online, but then I just said to heck with it, you can return them anyway. One time my shoes came and they weren’t the right size, and sending them back turned out to be much more convenient than I thought. I use Zappos. I am not being paid by them to write this.

Cindy -“What else do you think might be the cause, Dr. Health?”

First, Who said I’m a Doc?

Second, it depends on if there are other things going on like weight loss. If there are -then it would need a workup.

If it’s just your feet -maybe you measured wrong the first time.

OneOfMany- I got these amazing beige wedges from Nine West. They have a cork wedge that looks amazing! Definitely check them out!!

Why don’t you people just shop online?

Shoes look different on your feet than they do on the screen. You need to try them on first. Sometimes I’ll buy flats online, like jellies or ballet flats because you can’t go wrong with them.

First, Who said I’m a Doc?

    Well you’re diagnosing me so…

Second, it depends on if there are other things going on like weight loss.

    Nope.

If it’s just your feet -maybe you measured wrong the first time.

    That must be it.

The universe is said to expand and contract. So I guess that means feet, too. Hold on to those 7.5’s.

Cerealously, perhaps it is the sizing of the shoe. Since many things are now made overseas, I noticed clothing and shoe sizing is in no way consistent with former standards.

I see this is an old post, but I was googling to see if there was any answer out there as to why my son has gone from a size 12 1/2 as a freshman in high school, to 11 1/2 freshman in college to this year at age 26 we had to buy him new ski boot because he shrunk more. he is a size 10 now. I see comments here saying maybe you measured wrong, etc. and that is not fair to say to someone asking a real question. you know your feet. I am wondering what causes this to happen. his doctor has no idea. curious, since this is such an old post, if your feet have shrunk any more in the years since you first posted this. my son went down 2 and a half sizes over the past 12 years. it is a real thing. But what on earth is the cause? still searching. I believe you, and you are not alone. it is a weird thing, and I can find no answers.

Out of curiosity I googled this. The most interesting post I saw was someone who found she had lactose intolerance, and when she started avoiding lactose, her feet shrank. I also found this: So, your feet could be getting shorter because your arches are getting higher or because you are supinating more than you had in the past. But both of these conditions are fairly rare. The most common reason for a shortened foot length has to do with toe alignment.

If you’re concerned, why not ask a podiatrist?
