No clue. Why don’t you ask whomever it was who spoke about it and please get back to us and enlighten us.
All I know about Shabbos and Gehinnom is that on Shabbos the fires of Gehinnom are turned off (for those who were Shomer Shabbos khilchaso including the time they kept Tosafos Shabbos)

February 3, 2012 1:26 pm at 1:26 pm #849637ToiParticipantrefers to chosson going to future in laws for shabbos. has to be on best nehavior etc. pretty rusty, been there done that.
February 3, 2012 1:38 pm at 1:38 pm #849638squeakParticipantIts a joke about spending the first shabbos with his new mother in law
February 3, 2012 1:44 pm at 1:44 pm #849639gavra_at_workParticipantIsn’t that the shabbos that the Lakewood Roshei yeshiva are in town?

I don’t see the humor in that at all. WHAT IS THAT SUPPOSED TO MEAN?!
February 3, 2012 5:28 pm at 5:28 pm #849641gavra_at_workParticipantWIY: Long boring speaches when you would rather be eating Cholent or learning in Bais.
February 3, 2012 5:29 pm at 5:29 pm #849642WolfishMusingsParticipantWith all this talk, I am always reminded about how blessed I am that my in-laws and I got along perfectly from Day 1 and that my parents and stepmother get along with my wife perfectly.
Interestingly enough, the first time I met my future father-in-law was when he was sitting shiva for his father. Eeees and I had begun dating only a few weeks earlier and I had never met her father prior to the point when his father passed away.

” first shabbos with his new mother in law “
Funny!
February 3, 2012 6:06 pm at 6:06 pm #849644yaakov doeParticipantCommon knowledge that the term is used for the first Shabbos a chossen spends with his in laws. Usually said in a joking way, but even with the ideal in laws it can be tense.
I happen to have great in laws.

February 3, 2012 6:51 pm at 6:51 pm #849647🍫Syag LchochmaParticipantJust that my parents aren’t alive anymore. But I sure hope tho be the kind of in-laws my parents were!
February 4, 2012 5:21 pm at 5:21 pm #849648Shabbos Gehennom is the first Shabbos after you lose eligibility for food shtemps and suddenly notice what kosher food really costs.
(Yes, I’m back – gotta prepare 30 days before the chag and that means Peerim is on the way!)
February 6, 2012 10:49 pm at 10:49 pm #849649bptParticipant“and suddenly notice what kosher food really costs”

tuna baigel- Why does it have to be a tense time, why can’t you just chill and be yourselves?? she aint gonna get the right impression that way….she’s gonna get a rude shock sometime sooner rather than later, After all were all human!
December 25, 2018 12:42 pm at 12:42 pm #1651667✡onegoal™ParticipantSo Syag, how do you think you rate on the “in law scale” now?
December 25, 2018 12:58 pm at 12:58 pm #1651682🍫Syag LchochmaParticipant😈
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
December 25, 2018 1:01 pm at 1:01 pm #1651671GadolhadorahParticipantcan you try to think of a kinder way to say that? It was otherwise a good point. (talk about judgemental) – 29
December 25, 2018 1:02 pm at 1:02 pm #16516781ParticipantIt refers to the first Shabbos future husband spends with the family of future wife. Because he’ll have to be on his best behavior. If the food isn’t good and he doesn’t like father in law’s shul, he can’t escape.
