Mishpacha was banned? Fine, so I’ll read Newsweek.

I do not observe bans unless told to me directly by the person making the ban.

I have the same approach than you Mrs The wolf. I’m just curious about life and about human beings. I don’t read any of those publication becaise I don’t like propaganda. Nobody has totell me how to think. But I appreciate a nice open discussion based on truth and respect.

Sorry MR THE WOLF, I got an argument between my fingers. Lol. I hope you forgive me. No bad intention at all.

No need to apologize. I wasn’t offended, merely amused.

At the very least, the ban serves notice to the target (Mishpacha in this case) that they are off the Jewish beaten track, according to the leaders of Torah Judaism, and they will face consequences as such. It usually will result in the target shaping up somewhat to avoid facing more such denounciations.

I read Mishpacha, and I would love to know where they are off the Jewish track.

Why should they observe the ban? I don’t observe it.

lol mishpacha is banned but ami isnt…i find that amusing. not because i think either is worthy of being banned, but because ami is a bit more left than mishpacha

I think that they are talking about a newspaper of the same name – especially as the YWN article said that the background is a dispute with Yated.

    To apushatayid

    Harav Elyashiv Shlit”a

btw just out of curiosity what is this supposed feud between yated and mishpacha about?

    #841087

In Williamsburg Brooklyn NY, they banned Mishpacha, Hamodia and .Bina

I’m reading tv iran an iranian newspaper in english, very kosher and sometimes funny. Fed up with orthodox politics.

    About band, jazz band?

I don’t think they’re talking about the English language Mishpacha.

I am still confused. What caused the ban l’chatchilah? I have never seen anything offensive in Mishpacha.

    oomis,

Do you read the Hebrew Mishpacha?

    #841092

The Israeli Mishpacha newspaper and magazine and the American magazine all share the same ownership and much editorial content.

Actually people read Mishpacha on the ban.

Now let’s see if anybody can back up The Horses Mouth. And even if he is correct, it could be that R’ Elyashiv only banned the Hebrew Newspaper (if he ever actually issued any ban at all)

Rav Elyashic Shlita found content in the Mishpacha that he didn’t like or found objectionable? I highly doubt he ever read a single word of the publication. How did he find objectionable content?

That is the real problem with these bans

Stuff is banned that is not read.

The book Making of a godol was banned by gedolim who do not speak or read english

Probably MISHPACHA is too much reality for them. They can’t deal with either the outside world or certain internal issues.

    #841099

You can trust Rav Elyashev. He doesn’t issue a proclamation lightly. When he does he knows what he is dealing with a lot better than any of us.

Its not Rav Elyashiv we don’t trust. Just those who claim to speak in his name.

    #841101

According to yesterday’s story on the front page of Yeshiva World, Rav Elyashev personally signed a public letter calling for the ban.

Mishpacha is very important, it is the foundation for all Jews, without Mishpacha what would happen to our children? I refuse to ban families!!!! I don’t care who says so.

On a serious note. I have not as yet heard that R’ Eliyashav is feeling better or is at a point where people are telling him what is going on around him. How can any of us believe that he is saying any of what is being in written in his name?

    #841103

From what I read recently, the letter was published on the hebrew Yated Neeman and the last information, it seems that is a fake. I’m not surprised.

For these and similar bans (as well as raybans talibans turbans and all other bans) to be taken seriously it would be beneficial to quote precisely what was found to be a problem with these publications. They should reference a specific article and explain the problem with it. Otherwise we are inclined to think the ban is based on politics and the “handlers” were able to convince the Rav that its necessary to ban the publication.

You seriously mean that it has been confirmed that a party went ahead and faked Rav Elyashivs signature?!!! Can you give me some more info????

    #841106

    To WIY

I read it on another site. I know this guy has an agenda, but usually he’s pretty well informed.

No, do you? Is it not supposed to be that what we get here is the English translation?

I know which site you mean. I don’t read his site its too disgusting. I will wait for others to pick up on the story first before allowing myself to get upset about this.

So, what was so objectionable in a frum publication, that supposedly is backed by rabbonim that the paper had to be taken to rav elyashiv shlita and not the rabbonim who advise the paper?

“i did hear people strongly suggest not reading the bina (which i understand)”

What exactly is objectionable about the Bina? Just curious, because I read it here and there and never found a problem.
