Is there any nafka minah between the various brands of frozen (checked) vegetables? Bodek, Eden, Golden Flow etc.
I don’t think there’s any difference with all those brands. I always use Eden- because they have a Greenhouse Grown line of produce with is definitely bug free. No other brand has that.
Do any of the jewish brands make the kind you can steam in your microwave?
I use Bodek or Golden Flow, & I steam them either on the stove or in the microwave.
Birdseye has the kind you can steam in the bag in the microwave
Love Eden’s frozen broccoli or cauliflower florets. I find that their pieces are bigger than the other brands.They’re not cheap, though.
Generally, you can buy corn, peas or stringbeans from Birdseye because they are round and don’t have the inner parts that, for instance, broccolli has. Therefore, it doesn’t have the same bug issues.
Different brands of frozen veggies use different cleaning processes. Some rely more on samples than others, some reply more on washing than others. Some rely more on the greenhouse process itself than others. There is actually a wide machlokes between the OU and the Star-K on this. Positive Produce is the cleanest, but they achieve it using chumras that my rav views as Bal Tashchis.As always, ask your LOR.
Our family preference is Golden Flow for quality and reliablility.
