This is all under the assumption that there are currently no female mods.
I think it would be beneficial if there were female moderators for the CR. The reason for this is because men simply do not have the same sensitivity for things that women have, and a comment that men think is okay, a woman can consider it to be hurtful. There seem to be quite a few posts and comments here that unfortunately do hurt women. Whether they are intended as jokes or not is irrelevant. The alternative to having female mods is for men to be more sensitive in their posts about women, but that’s probably asking for a miracle.
I don’t think there would be any downside do having female mods. It would only be beneficial.
November 25, 2011 5:11 am at 5:11 am #834723TheGoqParticipantI nominate Always Here to be out first femme mod.
November 25, 2011 5:14 am at 5:14 am #834724popa_bar_abbaParticipantYes but, unless they set it up so that each post has to be read by two mods, how will this help on average?
November 25, 2011 5:17 am at 5:17 am #834725popa_bar_abbaParticipantAlso, why do you make that assumption? Do you assume any generic person is male?
November 25, 2011 5:22 am at 5:22 am #834727gorgeous nose de veltMemberWait it out a little. It doesn’t seem that much longer..:)
November 25, 2011 5:23 am at 5:23 am #834728gorgeous nose de veltMemberPatience is a virtue, you learn that hard and fast around this place..lol
November 25, 2011 5:28 am at 5:28 am #834729Queen BeeMemberGreat idea, MP!
Poppa, it helps because if a male mod lets a certain thread or post through, and the female mod finds it offensive, she can delete it or lock it.
I nominate aries2756, if she has time of course.
There have been female mods, I don’t know if there are currently any. In any event, we usually don’t look at deleted posts at all.
November 25, 2011 5:33 am at 5:33 am #834730MiddlePathParticipantpopa, like QB said, perhaps the female mods can just every now and then check in and weed out posts that they feel are not in good taste towards women.
And I make that assumption because of all the posts that may be hurtful to women that have never been deleted. But maybe I’m wrong to assume that. Maybe there are female mods, and they just don’t notice these posts.
Thanks, QB.
November 25, 2011 5:42 am at 5:42 am #834731ZeesKiteParticipantThey indicated before that there are, in fact, female Mods.
November 25, 2011 5:57 am at 5:57 am #834732TheGoqParticipantWhat kind of comments are you talking about MP give an example please.
November 30, 2011 11:21 am at 11:21 am #834734ToiParticipantanother warm and fuzzy qb and mp thread. dont know how i missed this one.
November 30, 2011 4:17 pm at 4:17 pm #834735MiddlePathParticipantGoq, I don’t think it would be good to repeat them here, so I’ll just say there have been such comments mostly in threads that discuss girls, whether in terms of them learning, in terms of tznius, and seminary.
Toi, well I’m glad you found this thread, since I think this is an area you can really work on. Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure you know much more torah than me and learn much more than me, but I think it would be really good for you to always think twice before you write something here which may come across as insulting or rude. Please don’t get defensive, as I really don’t want to upset you! I think it’s great you really have a strong passion for what you believe in, and I greatly respect you for that, and although we generally don’t agree on a lot of things, it helps when we can speak respectfully to others, especially when we don’t agree with them.
November 30, 2011 5:13 pm at 5:13 pm #834736🍫Syag LchochmaParticipantMP – you are so awesome
November 30, 2011 5:25 pm at 5:25 pm #834737JotharMemberThe concept is sound. I like it.
The question is, does a female mod violate the rule of srara- melech velo malkah, or is it akin to a female mashgicha at a restaurant whose authority comes from a rabbi so it’s ok?
November 30, 2011 5:31 pm at 5:31 pm #834738ZeesKiteParticipantI nominate Syag, ‘Tell it to me, and I will tell you if it’s hurtful’
November 30, 2011 5:40 pm at 5:40 pm #834739always hereParticipantGoq~ belated thanks for the shout out! 🙂

I’m surprised that you didn’t ask how females can be mods being that they aren’t even Jewish!
