The many threads here have made it clear that many here have had unwanted email contact with stalkers. Some have had threats and harassment issues, which is a felony. While many here did not have this problem, there is an unfortunate number here who had.
BTguy suggested getting law enforcement involved. However, it’s tough to know what to do with the police, and no LE contacts have been forthcoming.
(preface- this is an unpaid plug le’toeles harabim- I’m not getting commission but I probably should).
Philip Rosenthal,is a computer cybercrime expert, computer forensic analyst, and ex-cop who has many contacts with the NYPD. In addition, he has spoken in numerous yeshivas and has appeared in many Orthodox magazines. He is available to help everyone fight back at their email stalkers. He knows the system, and knows what’s criminally actionable and what’s not. He can also do computer forensics if you suspect criminal activity. His website is philiprosenthal.org. As always, ask your rabbi before pursuing actual criminal charges. While he charges money, you might be able to sue the stalker for restitution.
he might also be able to give you free advice without charging you.
Here is a small part of his speaking engagements:

November 18, 2011 2:44 pm at 2:44 pm #828711BTGuyParticipantHi lolkatz. For the record, my suggestion was in the context that if some here had a strong concern about internet safety, which they do, then the site administrators can have law enforcement check things out from time to time.
My meaning was to take this relentless issue from the forefront of our interaction in the coffee room and move it to the background, where it should be. Whether law enforcement checks this site out or not, either way is fine with me.
November 18, 2011 3:25 pm at 3:25 pm #828712yentingyentaParticipanti heard mr. rosenthal speak when i was in sem (in america). he was speaking to the local HS so we were invited. he speeches are frightening (i think he gave the edited version per request of the schools hanhala b/c there were 9th graders there). my elementary school here where i live made it mandatory for at least 1 parent to attend a lecture by him a few years ago. people need to know to be careful and the only way to know what to be cautious of is to be informed. the person who doesn’t know what is out there will not know what to do if he is ignorant of the dangers.
November 18, 2011 3:27 pm at 3:27 pm #828713soliekMemberspeaking as someone who has done something like what jothar claims joseph did…i can tell you that jothar is making way too big a deal of this. you dont need a virtual police state to protect yourself from people who would use your personal information against you…just a little common sense. i think everyone’s got the message…
November 20, 2011 12:04 am at 12:04 am #828715popa_bar_abbaParticipantSounds like a good idea to me. A good prison sentence is sometimes what people need.
November 20, 2011 12:28 am at 12:28 am #828716squeakParticipantI think we need a group therapy session for Joseph’s victims… it will serve 2 purposes.
1) It will be cathartic
2) It will illustrate to those not victimized what he has done.
Maybe I’ll start a thread.
November 20, 2011 12:29 am at 12:29 am #828717OfcourseMembersoliek, you dont need a virtual police state to protect yourself from people who would use your personal information against you…just a little common sense.
Please elaborate.
November 20, 2011 3:54 am at 3:54 am #828718JotharMemberSqueak, +1.
Stalkers like Joseph thrive when nobody knows what he did. I am working with the mods to end the silence.
November 20, 2011 4:24 am at 4:24 am #828720squeakParticipantChances are no one will want to come forward. It always takes one brave person to break the ice, and then you can’t stop the torrents.
November 20, 2011 4:37 am at 4:37 am #828721soliekMember“Please elaborate.”
basically if youre about to post specifics that would identify you as you…something very distinct like your role in an organization, your role in a community…anything like that…anything that would mark you as YOU…dont post it. just filter everything you post and dont post anything too personal
November 20, 2011 5:04 am at 5:04 am #828722JotharMembersoliek, countless numbers of people on the CR thought they were doing that, and still managed to get stalked and harassed.
But a +1 in that you are agreeing with me fully . Don’t post anything that might help people identify you. People have no idea how stalkers like Joseph are able to connect the dots from seemingly innocent tidbits.
November 20, 2011 8:09 pm at 8:09 pm #828723JotharMemberSoliek, can you please give us examples of how you used to piece together info?
I had a good chat with Mr. Rosenthal. I recommend every joseph victim do so.
