can you say amen to your own bracha if no other person is there to answer it for you??

No. Where did you run off to that you needed to take your screen name with you?

no. Amen is like agreeing to the brocha. If you are the one saying the brocha, there is no meaning in acknowledging the truth of what you just said.

Can you answer a post, where there is no one noted as the poster?

(and please, do tell how you managed to get a screen name so anonymous. I can think of many ways to put this trick to use)

    Dear

Peoplach, it was the ‘gilgul-accusedasjosephindepast’ who mods deemed necessary to… His s/n lasted all of about 3.5 hours.

I believe it might be dependent on whether you follow minhagei Ashkenaz or Sefard.

My rebbi once explained this to me as the reason some say hagefen and some hagafen. ???”?.

Sefardi Minhagim by answering Amen after their own Brachos are complex and seem to contradict themselves at times. For an Ashkenazi, the answer is a very strong no.

Sam2, Sefardi Minhagim on answering Amen after their own brachos are not complex and do not contradict themselves. Everyone has the same shita on when to answer amen after your own bracha and that is when it is the end of a bracha in davening or bentching – thats it. The only difference is what we consider the end of a bracha. The only Brachos that Sefardim say Amen to that Ashkenazim do not are Hashkiveinu, and Yehalelucha if I am not mistaken. Oh and do Ashkenazim say Amen after Yishtabach? Because Sefardim do.

Trivia Question: Why do we answer amen to our own brocha of ‘U’Venei’ in bentching?

first one with the correct answer gets a free cup of freshly brewed coffee from our beloved Mods!

Pushtayid: I have met some Sefardim who say Amen after all Birchos Hanehenin except Hamotzi and some who say only after Hagefen.

Sam, I am assuming you mean after their own Brachos. I have never heard of that Minhag. It is possible I am mistaken but I have done extensive research on the difference between the Sefardi and Ashkenazi Minhagim on this subject. Hence, my earlier response.

I cant believe no one seems to have learned shulchan aruch. That is where halachos are codified. For shame.

The mechaber says answer amein to your own brocha at the end of.a group of 2 brochos. The rama says only after a group of 3. The sephardic and ashkenazic minhagim follow accordingly.

GM: They say it’s a problem but a Rebbe of mine once gave a great proof from a Gemara in Sukkah why it should be okay.

Why do we say in Betching, “Venomar Amen” while nobody answers Amen and we don’t expect them to. I’m wondering if it is a trick to be able to say Amen, yourself.
