Okay…what’s the best non cholov yisrael (or yeah ch”y!) choc. It doesn’t matter but I’ve heard non ch”y is better so between the two, which company is the best? Thanks!
November 4, 2011 4:47 am at 4:47 am #824923OfcourseMemberSchmerling!
November 4, 2011 5:03 am at 5:03 am #824924MDGParticipantI have heard that Godiva is best, especially their truffles.
November 4, 2011 5:15 am at 5:15 am #824925OneOfManyParticipantNovember 4, 2011 5:22 am at 5:22 am #824926am yisrael chaiParticipant?? ??? ?????? ??? ??????????!
It rhymes in Hebrew..basically it’s highly subjective!
For healthier bars, look for the ones with higher amounts of chocolate vs. sugar.
November 4, 2011 5:35 am at 5:35 am #824927Queen BeeMemberFor chalav staam, Reese’s, Snickers, M&Ms. Everything, really. For chalav Yisrael, Schmerlings! That stuff is so good!
November 4, 2011 5:37 am at 5:37 am #824928kapustaParticipantOneOfMany, you’re not so far off. The best chocolate comes in ice cream form. (not only HD)
November 4, 2011 5:38 am at 5:38 am #824929MDGParticipantA family member of mine is a dentist who told me that chocolate is good for the teeth, just not all the sugar in the chocolate.
November 4, 2011 6:07 am at 6:07 am #824930truthsharerMemberMDG,
Godiva isn’t the best, they are just really expensive which makes it seem the best. They are good though, especially their ice cream truffles. The best chocolates are usually European or high end stuff that you find in Whole Foods. In Europe, in order to be called chocolate, it has to meet certain standards.
November 4, 2011 3:21 pm at 3:21 pm #824931BTGuyParticipantThe best? I dont know. I rarely turn down chocolate. Hershey, Godiva, Astor…milk chocolate, dark, with almonds….. please pass a piece over here. Thanks.
November 4, 2011 5:44 pm at 5:44 pm #824932OneOfManyParticipantkapusta: I happen to thing that the chocolate coating on HD bars is the best chocolate out there, and that they should make bars out of it. (How did you know? :P)
Oh, but I HATE chocolate ice cream. Unless it’s REALLY good, it tastes nothing like chocolate…
November 4, 2011 6:01 pm at 6:01 pm #824933taking a breakMemberany dark chocolate. esp 72% cacao dark chocolate. cuz 2 small pc are really enough. but not hershey’s dark chocolate. too sugary. (PLECH!)

November 6, 2011 8:16 pm at 8:16 pm #824937GumBallMemberLike when ur fasting..OMG!!
November 6, 2011 8:45 pm at 8:45 pm #824938OfcourseMemberAny opinions on anything better than Schmerling, if limited to CY?
November 6, 2011 9:11 pm at 9:11 pm #824939moishyParticipantI totally agree with what AYC said.
November 7, 2011 12:30 am at 12:30 am #824941cinderellaParticipantTWIXXXXX!!! there is always one in my bag for those “I need chocolate” moments. I don’t really like chocolate but that is the only exception.
November 7, 2011 2:13 am at 2:13 am #824942ChanieEParticipantLe Chocolat truffles (Monsey) beat Godiva hands down and the shopping experience there is so much more pleasant than buying a box at Macy’s. For less-expensive but still absolutely delicious chocolate I go with Schmerling. To me, the advantages of non chalav yisrael are price and availability but not taste.
November 7, 2011 11:13 pm at 11:13 pm #824943GumBallMemberUm lets just not talk about the weight were gonna gain…
November 8, 2011 2:00 pm at 2:00 pm #824944moi aussiMember“My Chocolates” is the best parev kosher chocolate on the market. It sells in Europe and in Israel, don’t know about America. Parev chocolate (bitter) is for connoisseurs. Those who like milk chocolate are not mevinim.
November 8, 2011 2:25 pm at 2:25 pm #824945be goodParticipantMoi Aussi- I agree with you. My chocolates (which are amazing) are Belgian- which is the capital of the chocolate truffles. The best (Chalav Yisrael, parev and milchig) truffles (aka bonbons) are from Kleinblatt in Antwerp.
Chocolate Charm from Toronto are great too- the best I’ve come across in North America.
Parev is a different story- you can get very good, high end chocolate (with a hechsher) from Whole Foods and other gourmet stores. I’ve had Green & Blacks, Lindt (both currently only kosher in England I think), Scharffenberger and they are all great. Get the 70% or 80%. Don’t go any higher as they have very low sugar content if they are 90% cocoa or more and don’t taste so good.
November 8, 2011 2:30 pm at 2:30 pm #824946☕️coffee addictParticipantI used to love reese’s (before I became CY observant)
November 8, 2011 7:13 pm at 7:13 pm #824947🍫Syag LchochmaParticipantI used to spread peanut butter on chocolate bars and microwave them for 10 seconds. Mmmmmm
November 8, 2011 7:16 pm at 7:16 pm #824948Sam2ParticipantI take offense at the phrase “CY observant”.
November 8, 2011 7:37 pm at 7:37 pm #824949smartcookieMemberOfcourse- try the Torino sticks- they come in red and silver wrappers.
I’ve consumed packs upon packs of those in the past few years!
