Zeeskite, I wish I didn’t have to do this, and I wouldn’t need to be joined by Charlie hall Kapuste, 2scents, and everyone else. But the fact is that people have had their privacy violated, and someone is actively trying to mine sensitive info here. I am only trying to put a stop to criminal activity, not legitimate activity.

Whether said legitimate fun activity is a good thing or bad thing in halacha or hashkafa is, of course, not in my purview. “Shelo asani mod”…

The only information I give out is when I post — but that is a real give-away.

I’m not an investigator, I’m not a mod. I just saw obvious phishing attempts, confirmed with a mod friend of mine that this is happening, and decided to put a stop to it. Others here have confirmed that this is an issue.

I want to start a group here that watches the Shomrim. It will keep things in balance and prevent elitism. We all have to be vigilant of the high crimes and misdemeanors that allegedly are occurring here. On a serious note (although I am serious about watching the Shomrim)…….

I was thinking that even if someone out and out gives out their street address, there are SO many homes on any given street to know who is where and who is really who they say they are. If there is a threat, c”vs, that would be on the technical end of things whereby one’s computer is pinged or something, but that falls into the hands of the internet provider. What can a poster here do anyway to help prevent some sort of privacy infringement??? I mean, where do you draw the line? Dont walk outside because the other people on the street can be just as covert about watching you and where you go???

You can do as you please. If you want to give out private info to someone who is phishing for it, go right ahead.

Check the infostealers thread for validation by the mods.

but seriously, I don’t understand why you don’t get it – Jothar is not reporting anyone to law enforcement or taking out a contract on anyone’s life. He is just alerting the mods to threads which contain obvious and sometimes not so obvious fishing attempts that I’ve see here too.
