Dear Teacher,
We appriciate all you teach are kids and for are part we try to encurage them to do great in school which includes being in top of homework. (Hebrew & English multiplied by a few kids, almost a full time job). But don’t you think that giving homework for a six year old 2 days before Sukos is a little over the top?
Now I would love to tell my kids to just not do it but that would be disrespectful so they will have their homework done by tommorow but please don’t take it as a sign that the parents realy don’t mind it.
But then how will they learn to spell correctly?
Or punctuation…. 🙂
Hi Deizy, You have to be clear in how much Homework was given.
Homework means a repetition of classwork as a means of staying on top of things. If the teacher asked the children something that was very difficult and needed a parents’ assistance, it is one thing. Then you have a valid complaint. But if the teacher asked them to just review ( on their own ) the work, I don’t see anything wrong with it. Keep in mind though, that if your child is having a hard time with it, the teacher ought to know about it, so she can review the material with your child.
deiyezooger, I am an asst for 5 and 6 year olds. We gave homework over succos as a review since the girls are off for close to 3 weeks, there is definitely time for them to forget the things we learned (nekudos). The homework should take all of 5 minutes though. Even an older child can do the homework with the preschooler. Maybe this is the teachers thinking when she gave the homework because this was our thinking when we gave our homework.

That is the whole point. You don’t have to study with her. Have her sit in the kitchen and let her do her homework, while you are doing your work. It’s not your job. She should know the material.
write a note to the teacher, saying that she did her homework by herself. Ask the the teacher if she knew the material. The school day is so long. It is still hot outside. No one is expecting them to do more than a chazara.

Whoops, wrong thread. I guess its OK to discuss this here even though its between you and the teacher, but I figured someone should give you flak anyway. Why is everyone OK with discussing this here but not with discussing halachik issues?

I am with deiyezooger, I can’t stand when the kids have real hw over Yomtov, (including Yom Kippur). I want to know exactly when the hw is supposed to get done. I tend to do a few days worth at once. I know kids should review but it should be done on an incentive basis not as hw. making parent sign for each days hw over yomtov is unrealistic and unfair.
I must say, for someone having had no formal education in English, you are pretty good.
well i agree i have to time one of my kids doing hebrew reading 2x each page to i have to watch her and the watch next one i have to watch his reading new to it plus pratice and test for spelling test….all of which u cant just let them do themselves and thats just the first group
and for the one that says its a review of classwork haha ive thought spelling,borrowing (math), times tables, probability etc i trully think teachers today just asign the next page in book for homework bf looking if they have tought it and its not just my kids i have spoken to many parents
just take the homework and accidentally drop it in your mop bucket.
write the teacher a note explaining what happened and send her a honey cake.
