Darchei Binah is organizing alumni to say complete krias shema during Aseres Yimei Teshuva as there is special relevance.
Quote from the email:
For everyone who might think that this sounds somewhat random, let me explain. In kriyas shema at night we only say the first paragraph of v’ahavta after the main passuk. There are 2 main ideas to the parts that we say. The passuk of shema is an acceptance of ol malchus shamayim, an appropriate message for aseres yimei teshuva. The paragraph of v’ahavta however, is about loving Hashem with all of our hearts. Many of us do things from fear of Hashem. How many of us truly love Him?
Rav Schwab in his sefer on tefilah compares the love Hashem has for us to the love a man has for a woman. When a man is truly in love with a woman she is always on his mind. No matter what else he is doing, the thought of her is in the back of his head and it is what he always comes back to. This is the way Hashem feels about each and every one of us. We never leave His mind, even for a second. In fact, His love is even greater because we are never a thought in the “back of His mind”, we are all always front and center. If we truly realized this, how could we not love Hashem?
The word levavcha is written in plural form- as two hearts. Many mifarshim explain this to mean the two parts of each heart- the yetzer hara and the yetzer tov. Its easy to love Hashem with our yetzer tov. Loving Him with our yetzer hara is harder. Facing an aveira and choosing the right thing out of love for Hashem is a much higher level to attain.
I am asking everyone that for ten days, we remind ourselves of this message. Go to sleep with this thought in mind and maybe during the day it will influence one or two of our decisions. Iy”H by each of us working on our own hearts rivka bas sara raizel will have a refuah shleima for her own.
This family is very close to mine.
