Isn’t that a good idea? Mead is made from honey.
In other news, I found this great specialty honey shop, and I bought some local raw honey, on tap. Also for Rosh Hashana.
Bet I’ll be having some sweet year.

September 23, 2011 1:37 pm at 1:37 pm #8126642qwertyParticipantWhere can you buy kosher Mead?
September 23, 2011 2:34 pm at 2:34 pm #812665popa_bar_abbaParticipantI don’t know about the kashrus. I emailed someone last night, but haven’t heard back yet.
September 23, 2011 2:34 pm at 2:34 pm #812666Raphael KaufmanMemberMead is often used on Pesach. Frankly, I think it tastes awful but tastes differ. You might like it.
September 23, 2011 2:42 pm at 2:42 pm #812667popa_bar_abbaParticipantI once had some that was homemade by a guy in yeshiva who homebrews. I liked it.

Forgive me, its been a rough week.
September 24, 2011 9:09 pm at 9:09 pm #812673600 Kilo BearMember600 Kilo Bears do not like honey in any form. Neither do most bears, although today’s garbage-stealing bears that invade residential areas probably eat it along with everything else. The association of bears with honey is strictly a legend!
I’ve never tried mead. We have some sort of local mead but its kashrus is very doubtful.
September 25, 2011 1:34 am at 1:34 am #812674popa_bar_abbaParticipantAnd Drambuie! It is also full of honey!
September 25, 2011 1:44 am at 1:44 am #812675squeakParticipantKoshero?

September 25, 2011 3:49 am at 3:49 am #812679metrodriverMemberI’ll let you (all the choshuve posters on CR) in on a little secret. (Not that any of you give a hoot.) I never tasted mead. Nor have I ever seen it in any form. Is it alcoholic? The only reason I know about it altogether, is from old Chassidishe Maases from Rebbes.
September 25, 2011 7:09 am at 7:09 am #812680600 Kilo BearMemberDrambuie – 100% kosher – London Beis Din.
September 26, 2011 7:41 am at 7:41 am #812681mobicoParticipantAs far as I know, there is no Inyan to Davka have honey per se on Rosh Hashanah. The reason to eat it is that it is so sweet, much more so than sugar. Mead, however, is not sweet (I think – am I right?). Hence, drinking mead on Rosh Hashanah is more likely to garner an alcoholic year. Or perhaps an archaic one.

Which is it? 100% kosher, or LBD?

kindly restrain yourself 🙂
September 26, 2011 9:04 pm at 9:04 pm #812684600 Kilo BearMemberLOL Squeak – Dayan Ehrentreu of the LBD knows his stuff when it comes to mashke.
Like the OU, the LBD is a mass-market semi-non-profit hechsher that is meant to enable as many people as possible to keep a baseline standard of kashrus.
Like the OU, they have expert rabbonim, mashgichim and staff who know what answer to give depending upon who asks them about what.
