Do you go to Museums, Specifically either Museums Like the Museum of Natural History or the Metropolitan Museum of Art

(High Class Museums as opposed to low brow) or Children museums which are basically indoor playgrounds

no. Its not supposed to tell anything about anybody.

I was more interested do you take your kids there and What do you tell them about things like the Dinosaurs or the artwork in the Art Museum

    #812037

about dinosaurs you tell them the truth.

they were very large animals that lived a long time ago and have now become extinct

I can only say what my father did when he took me to the museums.

Dinosaurs: He pretty much told me what mod-80 said. That and complained about the inane placards about Dinosaurs and birds.

Art at the Met: He was always too busy trying to drag me out of the arms and armor exhibit to tell me anything about the art. 🙂

I would not take a child to the Met. You will see all kinds of pritzus and statues there. Science museums geared for kids are usually more parve, but check for rotating exhibits that can be problematic. New York Hall of Science in Flushing is great for kids. Also Liberty Science Center Jersey City.

I loved Liberty Science Center. That was the best museum I went to as a kid. Art museums, IMO, are probably not a good idea for kids because there are many inappropriate paintings. It can be inappropriate for adults as well, but the adult should decide on his/her own if it’s for them.

liberty science center????? plech! they got rid of all my fave exhibits! e/t is digital now. no touch tunnel, the room with the crashed car and medical stuff, all gone! probably the only thing the same is the expanding ball in the middle.

NY museum of natural history, now thats a cool place. last time i went i really njoyed the rock exhibit. IIRC they have a display of Judaica…. my real fave though is aquariums. fishies rock!

They got rid of the touch tunnel? A chutzpah! I haven’t been there in years, and I had no idea. That’s so sad.

I’ve always loved science and history museums, planetariums, and aquariums. I recently began to appreciate art history, and would definitely love an art museum. I really love the Indy 500 Motor Speedway Museum in Indianapolis and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum in Cleveland.

My parents frequently took my siblings and I to the Met museum of art – I had an appreciation for fine art drummed in since youth, and embraced it. I love going to that museum, my wife and I take our toddler there and he loves pointing at the paintings and talking about their contents – “blue birdie!” or “tree!” etc – (he loves the Monet, Renoir, and Breugel paintings especially, for some strange reason).

I believe that done properly, art (artistic forms of expression in general, not just painting) is one possible manifestation of how humans can be “tzelem Elokim” – an artist can almost literally create something from virtually nothing. Beethoven created his 5th from… a jumble of musical notes. Amazing. I don’t think HKBH gave Mozart, Beethoven, Michaelangelo, Donatello, et el these abilities for naught….

We definatly used it. It was the first time I had been back since the re-model.

It still a good museum, but better for kids Id say 3-15 or so

I once heard that snakes (serpents) were dinosaurs prior to the aveira of the nochosh in gan eden.

As for museums, try Washington, D.C. The museums of the Smithsonian are very well done.

as far as dinosaurs, i was always told that they were the resulting offspring of animal crossbreeding before the mabul due to the sheer level of corruption and immorality in the world.
