I had a dream last night that I came into a significant amount of money and in the same dream a good family friend (who has stage 4 cancer) died (CV”S). Do I fast? Do I do nothing?
August 31, 2011 6:27 pm at 6:27 pm #811143TomcheMemberA dream depends on how you interpret it. Also, in a dream there is a piece of untruth in the general truth of the dream.
Here is how I’ve interpreted your dream:
You will indeed come into a significant amount of money as per your dream. Yet the part about the friend passing is incorrect. It meant that his illness left him and he became well.

August 31, 2011 7:37 pm at 7:37 pm #811145bptParticipantYou could also go to a Sefardic minyan (or yemenite) where they say birchas kohanim every day at shachris.
Thats a big segulah for having dreams turn out well.

Even for those who take dreams seriously I think its only if the dream repeats itself. Either way I would ask a Rov.

The gemara in Berachos says that all dreams go after the interpretation and that an uninterpretted dream is like an unopened letter.
That being the case, here’s my interpretation:
In your dream, the significant amount of money you came into is a metaphor for the mitzvas you will m’kaiyaim in the coming year. You my friend will be wealthy in the s’char that the Ribono Shel Olam is faithful to repay to those who do His Will. Through this z’chus, He will provide you with monetary reward in order to further your charitable endeavours.
Regarding the family friend who died, in your dream you witnessed a sick person dying. Accordingly, in the coming year, the sickness itself will in fact die and your friend will have a complete recovery from his/her cancer.
May only good things come to you, your family, and your loved ones throughout this month of Elul and the coming year.

I just saw this person yesterday at a restaurant and she was seemingly very fine and healthy even though she has been undergoing extreme chemo for stage 4 cancer. She is my best friend’s wife and both of them are Tzadikim!
Just for the record, in my dream I won 700,000,000 in the lottery!

September 1, 2011 1:52 am at 1:52 am #811153Sam2ParticipantIt is clear from those Gemaras in Berachos that you can’t just give any interpretations for any dream. There are rules for interpreting dreams and if they are ignored the interpretations are meaningless.
And, to quote Rebbe of mine, if you are worried enough about the dream that you have to ask then it probably means you have to do something about it (fasting, Tzedaka, just a Hatava, depending on the dream).

September 1, 2011 2:08 am at 2:08 am #811155ItcheSrulikMemberThere is a tefilla for these situations to say during birchas kohanim btzibbur. There is also a ritual called hatavas chalom in the back of the siddur. Of course, since you’re a kohen you can ask one of your children to bless you which is the oldest “segula” in the Jewish tradition.
September 1, 2011 2:21 am at 2:21 am #811156YehudahTzviParticipantItcheSrulik: Only one problem. I can’t say it while I’m duchaning. 🙂

Can you explain more, please?
September 1, 2011 1:58 pm at 1:58 pm #811158ShtiegerMemberMaybe you should learn a little more and you will stop having chalomos and hashem will reward you with reality!
also its a known thing that when people have a dream about someone dying it means that that person is going to live a long life. No need to worry.Just serve hashem a little better to make that dream a reality!! maybe your true wealth is smething that you see as being dirt and hashem is trying to tell you that it’s worth more than you think, just look a little deeper. You aint perfect. And you should know that!
September 1, 2011 9:11 pm at 9:11 pm #811159ItcheSrulikMemberIf you are a kohen you can’t say it when you’re duchening, but if you’re a kohen your children are too and being blessed by a kohen is the oldest “segula” around and the only one sanctioned by the Torah. You do not have to wait until a time when the tzibbur duchens to get this bracha. Not sure if they make the bracha on blessing you (??? ????? ??????? ?? ?????) when it’s not an “official” duchening. Ask your rav.
September 20, 2011 9:09 pm at 9:09 pm #811160YW Moderator-42ModeratorIs there ever a time when kohanim can say this tfila for dreams, or are they “yotzei” with the tzibur saying it while they are chanting?
