I mean that I do not believe you are asking this question in earnest. I believe you are asking it to get an argument started which you will revel in.

I have done this myself a time or two hundred.

I’m upset about people who claim to be upset about schools not taking English seriously who themselves can’t write a complete sentence in the English language.

This is actually a serious issue. I personally know people who’ve completed a yeshiva education who are functionally illiterate in English. This is a shanda!

Maybe he went to one of these schools and that is why he is upset?

“there are kids that are 17 years old and can’t even complete an 8th grade math example(and their not a minority)”

patriot, I guess that you could not complete an 8th grade English example (did you mean exam or examination?) because you don’t seem to know the difference between “there”, “their” and “they’re”. You have used it incorrectly in the above sentence.

And what are you complaining about – English or mathematics? You also don’t seem to know too much about punctuation, either. (Haifa, help me out here)- I am curious about what grade you are in and how old you are.

I agree that it’s a big problem, and it is manifest in your poorly articulated complaint, which is full of spelling and grammar errors. Did you, by any chance, attend one of those schools?

    Sincerely,

Oy Vey, a 15-year-old yeshiva bochur who DOES take secular studies seriously.

Oy Vey: Are you the only person who posts from the Oy Vey screen name? I’m pretty sure I’ve seen posts from your SN from someone indicating they are an adult.

Tomche: Yes I am. I don’t remember indicating that I’m an adult, but it is possible that at one time I wanted to create a false impression. (I’ve had this screen name for over a year.)

I apologize for this in advance…. but… you have a few grammatical errors in your post as well.

    A) You should have written “manifested” not “manifest.” The form you used refers to a ship’s manifest, or a manifest of cargo. See thefreedictionary.com for further info.

    B) “Grammar” is a noun, not an adjective. You should have said “grammatical errors.”

I hope you can forgive me…

Maybe Yeshiva boys should go to public school for secular studies, since we all know how great American public school pupils come out in knowledge of their studies.

I actually do feel kind of stupid, but I suppose that’s a healthy feeling, once in a while. :->

I’m glad I went to a high school that had a high level General Studies department. But really, for my current college education, I think I would have scraped by with a mediocre high school education.

I am in the same boat. I do not want to elaborate, lest I get corrected. But I just finished high school last month and naturally my yeshiva gives no degree. I am currently working on a GED.

OP- as this topic is education-related, i feel it’s my duty to point out-“their not a minority”. i love it.
