Is it practical for families in todays society to subsist with a stay at home wife/mother? I know its ideal, but how practical is it?
How is it in your family? Is your wife (or mother) a housewife/homemaker or a working mom? And please note if she is
a. Married without children yet
b. Married with young children
c. Married with all children at least teenagers
d. Married with children who don’t live in her home (i.e. married children)
And how do the stay-at-home moms manage financially?
BH I was able to have both: I am a working mom and a stay at home mom, I work from home: in the afternoon when kids are out, and evening when kids are sleeping.
What do you do that allows you that flexibility?
My wife was for a time a stay in mother dealing with house and kids. Then she went to work and i stayed with kids and dealt with alot at home and now we went back that i am the one working she is home but wants to do something from the side(mi hatzad)
Of course its practical…..that is if the husband earns enough to support the family comfortably and the wife enjoys being a stay at home mom.

I would like to remind everyone that every mom is a working mom, whether she earns pay for it or not. Ummm, I applaud you for finding a way to be there for your kids AND bring in some parnassah.
My wife is currently on maternity leave, you get a full year in Montreal…Becasue she is a government employed social worker, the first 6 month she was paid %97 of her salary, droping to %75 the last 6 months of her leave…She’ll go back to work 4 days a week in the winter…

In America, my wife worked part-time. She started at 4 days a week, and got so good at her job that she was able to cut it down to 2.5 days a week and still do everything she needed to do. Here in Israel she works from home in the evenings.
My wife was a stay at home mom, until the kids were off to school full time. (Then she worked to support her shopping habits:)
Seriously, when we were a one income family, we struggled. I have no idea how people make it on one salary only (unless the 1 salary is $200,000).
i was working part time out of the house for the past three years, and this coming year i will be working from home, while my children are out.
With Siyata Dishmaya we have a one income family, working father and a mother that’s a mother.
What are the best and most compensated work at home jobs?
In our circles most wives are homemakers or work only at home.
@MichaelC: I don’t know if you are married, have kids or not, but do you think with today’s economy and price of living going up everyday, that women aren’t working outside the home just to pay the mortgage/rent? C’mon. Get real. A nice concept but hardly “realistic” in today’s world.

Sure it’s realistic to stay at home. Most of us do it.
Working out is a relatively recent phenomenon.
