my biggest fear is claustrophobia…my parents would like to make a vort in a hall which should hold about 200 people but i am expecting between 350-400…should i be nervous or assume people come and go and itll all be good!??!
July 28, 2011 7:51 pm at 7:51 pm #792039YW Moderator-80Memberpeople dont stay long
and they come at different times
shouldnt be a problem
July 28, 2011 7:52 pm at 7:52 pm #792040bptParticipantYou’ve got bigger issues to worry about. Like the fact that (if memory serves me correct) this is the first time the CR is seeing mention that you’re engaged.
As far as capacity, a vort is a come-and-go affair, so its doubtful you’ll have all 400 there at one time.
Nu, how big a rock? And what kind of watch did he get?
July 28, 2011 8:01 pm at 8:01 pm #792041cshapiroMemberBH I am engaged to a wonderful guy, got a gorgeous diamond bracelet and awaiting the ring to be set. I am nervous because I have been to friends vorts that I would have stayed longer but they were so small and claustrophobic that I just left.
Also my fiance is not from brooklyn, so i feel like if people are traveling in, they arent gonna stay for 10 minutes after driving 2 hours…right?
July 28, 2011 8:13 pm at 8:13 pm #792042smartcookieMemberMazel tov! Wonderful news!
I did see a C. Shapiro engaed on Only simchas.com this week, and was wondering if it might be you!!
July 28, 2011 8:17 pm at 8:17 pm #792043charliehallParticipantAdvice I give to everyone I hear who is getting married:
(1) Do things the way you want them, not the way others’ want. This is YOUR wedding, not your parents’, not your in-laws’.
(2) Don’t spend too much money.
Can you have this event in a shul social hall? They can be much less expensive.
July 28, 2011 8:28 pm at 8:28 pm #792044cshapiroMemberThank you Charlie for understanding…we can be friends now 🙂
I want to, but a lot of the typical places in brooklyn claim to hold only 200-250.
July 28, 2011 9:50 pm at 9:50 pm #792045Wasn’t there takanos to eliminate the VORTS which really is a Chassidishe minhag?

Secondly, people come and go and rarely do all the people we expect to come, come. For whatever reasons people wind up not coming even though they want to or plan to. A vort is not a wedding and no one plans to stay for very long. If you chosson’s family and friends live 2 hours away don’t expect to many to show up and even if they do, they might come, leave for a while and come back. Since it is not a sit down dinner, and it is spread out over many hours the place will be big enough. You have no clue as to when people will show up, so don’t worry so much about it. It is what it is and it will be fine. It falls on your parents shoulders if it is crowded or if their is a problem no yours. YOUR job is to just relax, enjoy and have a great time.
July 29, 2011 2:36 am at 2:36 am #792053minyan galMemberMazel Tov. May Hashem bless both of you with long, happy and healthy lives together. May all of your relatives “kleib nachas” from now until long after the chupa is a moth eaten piece of fabric. The best of your lives is yet to come.
July 29, 2011 2:57 am at 2:57 am #792054charliehallParticipantI can direct you to some synagogue social halls in the Bronx that can handle around 350-400.

July 29, 2011 7:54 pm at 7:54 pm #792057Another nameParticipantMazal tov! Coffee room simachos are always extra nice!
Another point that doesn’t seem to have been mentioned, but vorts are always claustrophobic for the kallah, no matter how large or small the hall is. That’s the price of being a kallah (everyone surrounding you, hugging and kissing you, squishy pictures, etc.)
July 29, 2011 10:05 pm at 10:05 pm #792058charliehallParticipantOur vort was not claustrophobic because we didn’t have one. We also didn’t have tenaim. We did have a nice “friends meet the bride” pot luck in my hometown and a “friends meet the groom” pot luck in hers. Also a nice wedding and Baruch HaShem a nice marriage.
July 29, 2011 11:21 pm at 11:21 pm #792059minyan galMemberCharlie: The nice marriage that you speak of is better than a hundred parties. A happy life together is the best reward that you can ever have. May it continue for both of you – together – bist a hoondred und tzvantzig and beyond.
