So I wanted to have a thread about car stuff. Superchargers vs. Turbochargers. Muscles vs. Exotics. Weight vs. Horsepower. Anyone here want to discuss these things?
I realize that I may be the only one here that is interested in this topic, so the backup topic of this thread is for anyone (adorable) who wants to discuss manicures.
Fire away!
July 11, 2011 10:01 pm at 10:01 pm #897796Pac-ManMemberJust tell me the gas mileage. The rest is all cosmetics.
July 11, 2011 10:45 pm at 10:45 pm #897797yentingyentaParticipantpac-man: or lack there of 🙂 have you ever seen a pontiac aztec? that has got to be the ugliest SUV EVER
July 12, 2011 2:05 pm at 2:05 pm #897798mewhoParticipantaztec is definetly a strange looking car. from what i understand it was made for going camping etc.
ive driven one and didnt care for it either. backing up was differenct viewing wise than anyother cars ive driven
July 12, 2011 2:34 pm at 2:34 pm #897799adorableParticipantMiddle- LOL you have me rolling!!!!!!
July 12, 2011 2:46 pm at 2:46 pm #897800MiddlePathParticipantThis was for you, adorable 🙂
Ughh. The Aztec is hideous. Pac, yes, practically speaking, gas mileage is one of the most important things to consider when purchasing a car. But in terms of appreciating cars for their performance, better gas mileage usually means lower performance. Not always, but usually. If there’s anyone here into cars, what would you rather have and why?:
BMW M3 or CL63 AMG
Mustang or Camaro
Impreza or Lancer Evo
Audi R8 or Porsche 911 Turbo
Aston Martin DB9 or Maserati GranTurismo
If no one here wants to discuss this stuff, remember that the backup topic is manicures.
July 12, 2011 2:55 pm at 2:55 pm #897801Pac-ManMemberappreciating cars
I have so much else to appreciate (Hashem, Family, Klal Yisroel) I have no time or energy or will or need to appreciate cars.
July 12, 2011 3:01 pm at 3:01 pm #897802MiddlePathParticipantPac, if that’s the extent of your appreciation, fine. I feel that I can appreciate a whole lot more than that. There’s really no limit to my appreciation.
July 12, 2011 3:54 pm at 3:54 pm #897803adorableParticipantwhy cant you appreciate EVERYTHING in your life? is there a limit?
July 12, 2011 3:55 pm at 3:55 pm #897804adorableParticipantpopa even started a whole thread about how much he loves his car. why not be that type of person instead of a negative person who doesnt like anything?
July 12, 2011 5:13 pm at 5:13 pm #897805yungerman1ParticipantMustang or Camaro – TOUGH ONE. MUSTANG
Impreza or Lancer Evo – NEITHER
Audi R8 or Porsche 911 Turbo- AUDI
July 12, 2011 5:29 pm at 5:29 pm #897806MiddlePathParticipantyungerman, thanks for your choices! I actually agree with on the two that you chose. But why “neither” the Impreza or the Evo? They’re both great rally cars..I would choose the Impreza.
How about this one:
Mclaren MP4-12C or Ferrari 458 Italia
July 12, 2011 5:39 pm at 5:39 pm #897807EmunahPshutaOrNoMemberCar of my dreams! M5
I wiil take natural power before Turbos etc.
Gimme a v12 any day!
July 12, 2011 6:05 pm at 6:05 pm #897808MiddlePathParticipantAlright, Emunah! The M5 is awesome, agreed. Powerful, refined, not too showy, but handles like a proper sports car. Yes, natural power is great, but it’s hard to find a car that can handle all that power and put it on the road. Like, if you put a V12 in an M5, for example, it would probably get dragged around like a rag doll when you floor it. Another example- There’s a tuning company called Brabus that takes a standard Mercedes CL63 and packs it with a 700 bhp 12 cylinder engine, and the thing can barely drive without wobbling around and tearing to bits. Only certain cars are made to handle that sort of power. If you had a v12, what car would you put it in? Personally, I would only have a v12 in a car that is MADE for a v12. (Like the Murcielago, Zonda, etc.)
July 12, 2011 6:37 pm at 6:37 pm #897809EmunahPshutaOrNoMemberI’ll put it anywhere! In my 2005 Impala. That would be awsome! Talk about an SS:)
July 12, 2011 6:39 pm at 6:39 pm #897810aimhabonimParticipantI’m not too “into” cars, but I do think the Aztec is really pretty ugly. I once saw one whose license plate was UGTEK. Boy, did I laugh…
July 12, 2011 6:45 pm at 6:45 pm #897811EmunahPshutaOrNoMemberImagine this scenario. Driving my suped-up Impala(but looks like any other Lakewood Impala), stopped at a light next some hot-shot in a vette or other sports car, motion to him that I want to race. He starts laughing thinking I’m nuts,… and then, all he sees is far-of taillights and lots of dust…..Haa haaa
July 12, 2011 7:19 pm at 7:19 pm #897812adorableParticipantI’m not a manicure enthusiast by any stretch of the imagination. I almost never even go but I love them! Its like my pacifier.
July 12, 2011 8:10 pm at 8:10 pm #897813MiddlePathParticipantEmunah, wow, I’d like to see that!!
adorable, so tell me about manicures! :)…what’s your favorite type? (Or are there different types to begin with?)
July 12, 2011 8:23 pm at 8:23 pm #897814MiddlePathParticipantJust saw online that Brabus just finished tuning the Mercedes EV12. It is the fastest four seater convertible in the world- 6.3 liter v12, 778 bhp, top speed: 231 mph, 0-60 in 3.7 seconds. Price- Half a million dollars.
July 12, 2011 9:04 pm at 9:04 pm #897815adorableParticipantDIFF TYPES?!?!?! LOL well there are different colors do you know that? lets begin at the beginning
July 12, 2011 9:17 pm at 9:17 pm #897816MiddlePathParticipantHa! Oops. Sorry, I really don’t know too much about manicures. Yes, I know there are different colors..so what’s your favorite color?
July 12, 2011 9:34 pm at 9:34 pm #897817adorableParticipantdo you really wanna know that much about me?!?!?! a couple of favorites….but I dont go that often so not so into it. I just take a nice pretty color off the shelf and pray that its nice.
July 12, 2011 9:49 pm at 9:49 pm #897818MiddlePathParticipantSounds good..Now that I’m thinking about it, I’m being way too nosy. Sorry about that. I’ll back off.
July 13, 2011 7:36 am at 7:36 am #897819MiddlePathParticipantSaw this recently on autoblog.com, and I wanted to share it with you guys. It’s about the Overfinch Range Rover, and it’s super cool. Here’s a piece from the article. I put the best part in bold:
“This, friends, is how one rolls. Behold the Holland & Holland Range Rover by Overfinch, a joint effort between the gunmaker, Land Rover’s bespokery and, well, Bacchus. One hundred tweed-wearing pheasant slayers will have the opportunity to drive this sybaritic super sled to the hunting grounds. Frankly, one wonders why anyone would ever bother leaving the SUV. This ultimate Range Rover is outfitted with a gorgeous, custom-integrated gun cabinet, a cavernous backseat console/fridge, and a liquor cabinet nicer than anything you’d find in Don Draper’s office. Our favorite feature? WELL, THE LIQUOR ITSELF IS “SELF-REPLENISHING,” MEANING THAT FOR THE FIRST YEAR OF OWNERSHIP, HOLLAND & HOLLAND RANGE ROVER OWNERS WILL HAVE THE VEHICLE’S BOOZE SUPPLY REFILLED AUTOMATICALLY. Think of it like bottled water home delivery, only with single-malt scotch, small-batch gin, and other fine adult refreshments.”
July 13, 2011 2:48 pm at 2:48 pm #897821adorableParticipantur not nosy its fine….
July 13, 2011 3:35 pm at 3:35 pm #897822yungerman1ParticipantMclaren MP4-12C or Ferrari 458 Italia – Mclaren MP4-12C Its predecessor was the Mclaren F-1. Fastest car out there. Cost… approx $950,000 if I remember correctly.
July 13, 2011 3:48 pm at 3:48 pm #897823MiddlePathParticipantYes, that is correct. But that was in the ’90’s. There are a handful of faster cars than the F1 now: Veyron, CCX, Ultimate Aero, just to name a few. I would choose the 458, even though the Mclaren is more powerful and quicker, simply because- it’s so much better looking, and..it’s a Ferrari.
July 13, 2011 4:09 pm at 4:09 pm #897824adorableParticipantmiddle- for goodness sake what car do you drive??!?!?!
July 13, 2011 4:18 pm at 4:18 pm #897825yungerman1ParticipantI guess I am still living in the 90’s!
July 13, 2011 4:51 pm at 4:51 pm #897826adorableParticipantwhat do you drive? a station wagon?
July 13, 2011 5:03 pm at 5:03 pm #897827MiddlePathParticipantadorable- A Honda 🙂
I just enjoy seeing cars and appreciate their performance, design, and mechanical precision. I wouldn’t actually OWN a car like that.
yungerman- Nothing wrong with that.
July 13, 2011 9:13 pm at 9:13 pm #897828adorableParticipantMiddle- I was talking to yungerman but I happen to love the Hondas….not that I know anything about cars…for all I know I dont even really know what a Honda is! How about you tell me which Honda and I’ll google it and tell you if its a car that I like…
July 13, 2011 11:03 pm at 11:03 pm #897829MiddlePathParticipantSure, adorable. Honda Accord…but, hey! Now YOUR’E being nosy! 🙂
July 14, 2011 3:19 pm at 3:19 pm #897830adorableParticipantI love that car. its a mini van though no?
July 14, 2011 3:45 pm at 3:45 pm #897831MiddlePathParticipantUh, no..That’s the Odyssey. The Accord is a four door sedan. You can google it.
July 14, 2011 5:05 pm at 5:05 pm #897832adorableParticipantI got a little confused reading two things at once….. sorry but I love those too.
July 14, 2011 7:43 pm at 7:43 pm #897833MiddlePathParticipantIt’s ok. Glad I have your approval! Tell me what’s your favorite color manicure and I’ll tell you if I like that color.
July 14, 2011 8:18 pm at 8:18 pm #897834The last RebelMemberM3 convertible is one of the sweetest cars ever designed
July 14, 2011 8:35 pm at 8:35 pm #897835MiddlePathParticipantRebel, good to hear that. But in my opinion, it may be one of the best performance convertibles ever designed, but I wouldn’t call it one of the “sweetest”. I think the M6 is a whole lot sweeter. What do you think of the M6?
July 14, 2011 8:43 pm at 8:43 pm #897836The last RebelMemberI’m into smaller cars muuuch better handling M6 looks don’t blow you away while M3 does!
July 14, 2011 8:45 pm at 8:45 pm #897837The last RebelMemberAnd BTW EVO
July 14, 2011 8:50 pm at 8:50 pm #897838MiddlePathParticipantRebel, fair enough. So you’re into smaller cars..would you rather have the M3, Audi S5, or Mercedes CL63 AMG? I’d go with the Mercedes just for its sound. But the M3 handles better than it.
July 14, 2011 8:58 pm at 8:58 pm #897839The last RebelMemberThe merc looks like a suit and for bigger cars it’s American muscle IE challenger SRT over stang and camaro
July 15, 2011 2:44 pm at 2:44 pm #897840MiddlePathParticipantChallenger?? Eeww. But hey, if you like it, great. Personally, I would never choose American muscle over European. If I was choosing a bigger sports car, it would be an Aston Martin or Maserati.
July 15, 2011 6:26 pm at 6:26 pm #897841MiddlePathParticipantNew question: During the ’70’s and ’80’s there were a number of great supercars that were put into production. Possibly the most noticeable advance in auto engineering was during these two decades. So, what is your favorite supercar from this time period? A few possible answers: Porsche 959, Lamborghini Countach/ Miura, Ferrari F40, Lancia Stratos, Maserati Bora…so many more.
July 15, 2011 9:05 pm at 9:05 pm #897842The last RebelMemberThe difference is that I’m going to get my hands on one these rides before you get one of those
July 17, 2011 3:32 am at 3:32 am #897843MiddlePathParticipantTrue, you probably will, since they’re a lot less expensive and generally more available. But that’s fine. I’ll wait for my Aston.
September 15, 2011 3:19 pm at 3:19 pm #897844methinksMemberHey MP, I just found this thread…no wonder adorable was so shocked that I didn’t know your into cars..lol!
September 15, 2011 4:27 pm at 4:27 pm #897845MiddlePathParticipantHa! Yeah, this thread is a dead giveaway.
But once you brought back this thread, I might as well say that yesterday I saw a real, in-use replica of a 1956 Jaguar D-Type, parked in a parking lot. Probably one of the coolest cars ever made.
