How would a Kiruv professional answer a potential BT if the BT asks:

How do we know which Gedolim have the most accurate interpretation of the 613 Mitzvos, most favored by G-d. Which does G-d prefer?

We all know that Gedolims’ interpretations of the 613 Mitzvos can vary greatly, especially in certain Mitzvos, depending on whether they’re from YU, Lakewood or Williamsburg, etc.

Will answering them that Hashem likes them all equally, focusing on efforts and intentions, just as a parent likes all children equally, even though they vary greatly, and that we mortals down here have no way to measure which Derech/interpretation is favored by G-d, be along the lines of what Kiruv professionals would lean towards?

I’d tell them that their job is to improve their propriety, to keep the very obvious and clear mitzvahs (tzitzis, side curls of some length, etc) and that they really do not need to delve into a laundry list of the 613 written mitzvos. If this is what is hanging up your B’T, they are not reading Tanakh.

It is more than the way a father accepts all his children. In that case, he accepts even the ones that are not continuing his exact ways. In the case of different groups doing Halachos differently, it is not a contradiction at all. What Hashem “really” wants is that you adhere to the Torah as interpreted by the rabbis. They are all doing exactly that!

Even when Rabbonim argue over a Halacha, it is true that each one sees his own view as the only truth. However, in the end of the day, the point is that they are doing what they understand, and that is the Halacha. I’m sure you’ve heard of the Gemara where Hashem quoted Tana’im and Amora’im. That is because what they understand, is the torah.

Here is a VERY real AND deep fact you need to know about the Torah:

yes it is the blue print of the world, yes, it was given to us by Hashem and every nuance is applicable to us anytime, everywhere.

But there is an additional dimmension:

“LO Bashamayim Hi”- Torah isn’t found in Heaven, it isn’t s/t far fethched or unattainable, in fact its very much in our reach.

In the Gemara, there is a story of a bunch of Tanaim who strongly disagreed about a psak of another Tana( I believe Rabi Shmuel, but im not entirely sure) in any case the Tana did everything he cud to prove to the group of Tanaim that he was write and he even said “the walls of this bais medresh will cave if I am right” and

the walls caved in…the Tanaim didn’t go for it…then he said “a Bas Kol( heavenly voice) will declare im right” and it did….so the Tanaim answered him “LO Bashamyim hi”, the psak( ruling) does not come from Heaven. It comes from Bais Din here on Earth! and says in Gemara that Hashem was saying at that moment “nitzchuni Banai”- my sons have won!

    What does all this mean?

Hashem gave us the Torah and wants US, as in our Gedolim, to

give us guidance and clarity. Talmidey Chachamim determine

what it means( even if in Shamayim its different) because

    Torah was given to US!!

That is why, even if you have different understandings/defintions/ruling etc, its all TRUE and all REAL

and all Impacting and all Acceptable!! because Hashem gave us the power to determine and understand what the Torah is all about! Lo Bashamayim hi, its

here on earth for us to rule through sanhedrin/Gedolim

and follow their guidance. its all real and true, because thats

how Hashem wants it! every generation needs a different mahalach,

and our Gedolim, who are immersed in Torah, determine what it is!

That’s when you get into a discussion of “Eilu V’Eilu.”

Bava Metzia 59. Halacha is no longer in the hands of Hashem, it is Paskened by our Rabbonim.
