I know that brought topic has been discussed in other threads, but I wanted to share some useful insight to job seekers (and those who were mocking the need for a high school education).
I work for a large company with offices in four States. We employ more than 2500 people in NYC alone. We have employees whose wages range from $7.50 per hour to six figure annual salaries.
ALL applicants, regardless of what position they are applying for must take a pre-employment exam. This exam includes High School level Math (all topics, including Trig), reading comprehension, and writing. In the past few years I have encountered quite a few corporations that will use these type of screening methods.
For all those who want to minimize the value of a high school education, think twice. For those who are far removed from high school and are looking to get in to the workforce, inquire from your prospective employer if they administer such an exam and brush up on your skills if needed.
Good Luck
