a round of applause for Popa. I think his controversial thread earned him the most responses per minute in cr history(plus a new subtitle)

    AYC,

that’s what gets the posts the controversial ones or the joke threads

I’ll settle for the joke threads.

PBA, looking forward to your award in a joke thread

Yes, the diabetes thread has 20 times as many posts, but they took over a year, while mine has 85 and has been open for only a couple of hours.

    #765020

AYC. I don’t find it disturbing. Why not have some fun?

Some of the jokes in the jokes thread are less humorous.

It’s good to have to use the brain cells a little proving things that are obvious.

actually, the diabetes thread is very impressive – somehow, i don’t think pba’s thread is gonna last as long as the diabetes one.

i would compare the threads to the toroise and the hare. the tortoise won the race.

Popa, What was your main idea in that thread, to simply have fun or to see how well people can actually articulate a good explanation. I ‘m not sure what you had in mind, but it was interesting to see how everyone wanted the obvious result, but I think mbachur and charliehall had the only real and solid argument. Now that it’s closed, what would you answer to such a question?

what was wrong with my answer?!?

    Haleivi:

While I’d like to pretend my intentions were that sophisticated, the point really was to have fun.

And I did have fun. And I think other posters also did. One poster suggested she was insulted, but I am skeptical of that. If she was, I am sorry (but not very. I would do it again. Stay tuned for another slow motzaei shabbos. I have a feeling these things may depend on which moderator is on. It looks like this mornings moderator wasn’t as amused. Or perhaps it was the same one, and s/he thought the joke was over.)

I even got myself a new subtitle out of it. And so did Bina.

i enjoyed it too. but nobody commented on my answer, and i personally thought mine was a good answer.

oh well, at least i got in the last answer before it closed.

getting a new subtitle was an added plus.

binahyeseira – somehow, i don’t think pba’s thread is gonna last as long as the diabetes one.

    and i'm prophetic, too. 😉

“One poster suggested she was insulted”

If you are referring to me, then I’m insulted you are suggesting that I might be a “she.”

However, I said that the thread was disturbing, & that’s very different.

Despite the fact that I tried to inject humor (leichter, etc.)

I don’t usually like when Shabbos ends.

    Now I have another reason.

You should have put that period outside of the closing parenthesis. How did moderators let that pass?

Pac-man, that would depend on if she’s Jewish…

Ok. Actually, binahyeseira’s post was the most straight to the core, and dealt with the actual reason more than proof thereof. But, it came with a big disclaimer, saying that it won’t suffice as proof to one who doesn’t accept its premise.

“Is being a woman an insult?”

“Pac-man, that would depend on if she’s Jewish…”

    That’s exactly correct, HaLeiVi.

Being a woman is never an insult (Adam requested one), except presumably from the OP.

I’d also like to mention that I resent my post being called a “typical troll question”.

There was nothing typical about my question. It was creative and brilliant.

Who ever thought of asking if women are Jewish?

Most importantly, what possible non-semantic difference could there be. I never suggested they aren’t chayav in the mitzvos they are chayav in. So who cares what we call them.

It is like if I would have suggested yisroelim aren’t Jewish because they can’t eat terumah. Who cares? Call them what you want, yehudim, yisroel, bnei yisroel, Jews, zhids, or whatever. It makes no difference.

I creatively ducked any discussion actual issues, and focused solely on definitions which make no difference.

It was much better than MosheRose, or OVER 1 MILLION JEWS IN NY. It was sheer brilliance.

Mod: change it to an atypical troll question, please.

You are very right. Besides, you can not call it a troll question if the participants are aware of the intent and are having a good time. We were not being setup.

“I never suggested they (women) aren’t chayav in the mitzvos they are chayav in.”

    Really?

    Quote:

“Women do not … really do any of the mitzvos”

“So who cares what we call them (women).”

    Apparently women do.

    And Jewish men.

Who was so ignorant and arrogant that they deleted my father’s account, after he had it reactivated?

It now says the username does not exist, which means that the user was deleted.

Popa, I commend you for posing a thought provoking and fascinating question. You had us posting there fast and furious. I hope Abba wtvr is shepping nachas. Now I turn the floor to you. What does make a person Jewish? Surely you must know!

Halacha makes someone Jewish. We pasken that we follow matrilineal descent. Nobody besides me has ever suggest that it makes a difference if you are a man or woman.

It is actually a bit surprising that matrilineal descent is so accepted, being that this opinion is not unanimous in the gemara.

can anything suffice as proof if you don’t accept its premise?

problem with the atypical troll thread was that his premise was completely inaccurate; so everyone was arguing with pba’s made-up theory of what is a Jew.

if one defines a Jew as only someone who lives in Israel or as someone who got a non-halachic conversion, there’s no discussion, for that is NOT how Hashem defines what is a Jew. that’s why arguing without agreeing on the premise is pointless – you’ll be arguing about apples and other person about oranges.

    ym moderator – 42: you’re right.

pba wrote on the peaceful thread:

    popa_bar_abba

Bina: I didn’t pull a joseph, it really is my father, and I had nothing to do with his post. (I just told him about the thread, as well as everyone else I know.)

abba bar dad – very cute user name. we can see that in pba’s case, sense of humor seems to have patrilineal descent. (though his mother may also have a good sense of humor)
