Why is it not for a BEN/ bas yisroel they r singing songs from the great and Holy Reb Shlomo Carlebach ZTL
April 29, 2011 7:26 pm at 7:26 pm #830903Huyde LaHashemMembermaybe so,but im almost positive they do not intend its audience to be frum, mainstream (flatbush, bp…) ppl. theyre work may be for a great cause but tht doese not meanits for everyone. take Black hattitude, theywant to help teens who need to get something out of their system. not for regulr household.

Point well taken. BUT, I must tell you, I heard them make havdalah last year in Kutchers, and let me tell you, we could all take a lesson from them when it comes to saying tefilos with your heart and soul.
No, I don’t know what’s “in” their heart and soul. But the sounds?
Pure as gold.
And black hattitude? Some of the best lyrics I’ve ever heard. And I’ll go one step further with hattiude; There is not ONE WORD / ONE IDEA they say that the CR would have a problem with.
Not one. I’ve listened to the songs countless times, and they speak to a teen in a way they can relate to. Perhaps not the tune we all agree on, but the message?
Unanimous.

Listen to what ever u WANT!! if it brings you closer to hakadosh baruch hu….thats the point of music!!! If non-jewish music does it..then so be it..but DONT EVER define the music u listen to as whether your a ben torah!!! thats just not fair!!

How in the world did you find this thread, after it being dormant for 6 months?

It seems that jockey full of borboun is just random stuff put together, but for some reason the chorus “hey little bird fly away home” is very metaphorical and meaningful, so yes i understand your confusion. moshav is covering this song that’s originally by Tom Waits and actually the stuff im googling now is interesting. like, ‘dutch pink’ in the first chorus means blood…. google the rest cuz it’s cool.
now about moshav- i always believe that if you feel like it is inappropriate, then that means it was just not created for you. I believe very much in listening to purely kosher music and it is hard many times. moshav is a great bridge for that with clean lyrics some really beautiful tunes (think; beraishit, eulogy, heart is open to name a few) and awesome songs. many have nice meanings, some just are fun (feet are made for dancing!) there concerts rock!
