April 19, 2011 7:15 pm at 7:15 pm #760378hello99ParticipantI’m confused. Charoses in not eaten, the maror is dipped in it and then it is shaken off.

No, it is not.
Charoses in not eaten
I am not aware of any halacha that says that charoses cannot be eaten during the meal or at any other time during Pesach.
But then again, knowing me, if I think it’s permitted, it’s probably actually forbidden as yehoraig v’al ya’avor.

There’s no source in the Gemara, Sifrei Halacha or Sifrei Minhagim about singing Dayenu, yet most families do it and some people view it as the highlight of the seder. So what? The OP happens to like the taste of charoses and, for him/her, it’s the best part. For me, it’s not. Live and let live.

April 21, 2011 7:10 pm at 7:10 pm #760386Patur Aval AssurParticipantWhy does there have to be a source to eat something you enjoy? Is there a source in the gemara to eat chocolate cake? No. Yet we all do.
April 21, 2011 7:59 pm at 7:59 pm #760387Pashuteh YidMemberI used to hate charoses more than the maror. It was the walnuts. I hated walnuts since I was a young kid.
Recently I switched to slivered almonds, and sweet apples and dates, and it was so delicious I couldn’t get enough. I rationalized that we are sweetening the bitter, and this is the goal of life.
April 21, 2011 10:32 pm at 10:32 pm #760388oomisParticipantI LOVE charoses, cannot get enough of it and would never dream of making it any time of year but for the sedarim, so yes, it is certainly up in the top three of best things on Pesach.
Unfortunately, for now I cannot make charoses with nuts added to the apples, wine, cinnamon, and ginger. Nevertheless, my charoses has always drawn raves in my family and among my invited guests, and despite the missing ingredient, was still very well received this year.
