As an older single guy (im sure i speak for others) what chizuk can you offer for davening daily shachris with a minyan, instead of alone in my room?
March 29, 2011 3:32 pm at 3:32 pm #753715gavra_at_workParticipantThere are Halachos in Shulchan Aruch as per when and how far someone must travel to daven with a minyan. Learn them, they will give you Chizuk.
March 29, 2011 3:48 pm at 3:48 pm #753716MDGParticipantOne name for the Mishkan is Ohel Moed, tent of meeting. One reason to go to shul is the social aspect. It’s healthy to interact with people.
Disclaimer: this is not meant as a encouragement to talk during davening or even to talk unimportant things in shul.
March 29, 2011 4:00 pm at 4:00 pm #753717YW Moderator-80Memberit refers to the Kodesh and Tahor meeting between Hashem and the Jewish People.
They did not make jokes and talk about business and entertainment in the Ohel Moed.
the Shul is a Mikdosh m’at. yes it is healthy to interact…in the vestibule.
March 29, 2011 4:06 pm at 4:06 pm #753718Mayan_DvashParticipant..simply, I used to see a single guy in one of the minyanim I daven and I tried to match him up with a girl I thought was appropriate. So you’re actually helping yourself and others. HELPS SOLVE THE SHIDDUCH CRISIS (CR old-timers will get this one). This guy is now married (not to someone I set up, but maybe someone else in shul did?).

March 29, 2011 4:46 pm at 4:46 pm #753720HaLeiViParticipantThe Gemara says that Hashem doesn’t reject a Teffila Betzibur. So, if you think that you might sometimes have other/foreign thoughts during Davening or any other causes for your Teffila to be rejected, here’s a simple solution.
March 29, 2011 6:33 pm at 6:33 pm #753721joe1MemberWhen you daven with a minyan Hashem doesnt only concentrate on your teffilos so if your mind wonders you dont need to be as worried as davening on your own.
March 29, 2011 7:16 pm at 7:16 pm #753722BSDMemberA mashal: This professor hands out test papers to his class with clear instruction that all students must hand in their papers before the bell rings. One moment later and you fail. The bell goes off and one student is still furiously scribbling answers. The professor approaches him and notifies him that he just flunked. “Do you know who I am?” says the student indignantly. “I do not know, nor do I care who you are” was his sharp reply, ” you failed the test”. “You mean to tell me you really don’t know who I am?” repeated the student. “Yes, I really don’t know”. “Great” said the student, “in that case…” and promptly slid his test paper into the class’s pile.
As an individual, we may not merit to have our tefilos answered, but the combined power of a tzibur is awesome.
March 29, 2011 8:00 pm at 8:00 pm #753723whocaresMemberThe chizuk I have for you is that it says in Zohar (Parshas Va’yichee) that Hashem does not look at the faults of a Tzibur and accepts their tefilos.
Having said this, I think that a person who does not make the proper effort* to davin with minyan can be categorized as a Ba’al Ga’avah. He feels that he is perfect, and is not afraid that the Almighty One, who knows what is in everyone’s heart, will see anything wrong with him.
*The Shulchan Aruch says that one is Mechuyiv to make an effort to davin with minyan (we don’t find this terminalogy by most halachos)
March 29, 2011 8:20 pm at 8:20 pm #753724baruchderrinParticipantI was once in a very well known “shtiebel” ie minyan factory in flatbush, there was a very old man who came to daven maariv, he came in by himself, his face was VERY severely burnt, his ears were completely singed off, his eyes were shut closed from the scarring, he was literally a train wreck, somehow this very old sickly, disfigured man who was writhing with pain made it to minyan, i am talking to myself no one else, but what excuse do I have not to come to shul.
There are also people who are disabled, some paralyzed lo aleinu, lo aleichem, who I see make it to shul regularly, every day, some limping, some in wheel chairs, some with oxygen tanks. at some point you have to say, these people came to shul to daven, HKBH gave me health today, how can I not get up and go to shul. i wish it didnt take such extreme examples to put things in perspective but seeing these things really made an impact on me
also during the big blizzard this winter, seeing how many people made the trek to shul whether by car or on foot in those conditions was a real chizuk for me
March 29, 2011 9:15 pm at 9:15 pm #753725blueprintsParticipantBsd:
He wasn’t writing in his paper and you forgot he nicks an apple from the teachers desk as he leaves
(but your moshul really has no shaychus)

March 30, 2011 2:17 am at 2:17 am #753727charliehallParticipantOne reason *I* go to minyan is to be of service to my fellow Jews, particularly the men and women who need to say kaddish and need a minyan to do so.
Now *I’m* saying kaddish and I’m grateful to everyone else who comes.
Judaism is about serving God and our fellow humans.

Are you trying to start another controversy here? 🙂
