Hi! I always read the posts, but I never actually took the bother to make a user name and post. However, I think the CR is getting out of control. Although I am far from narrow-minded and do come from a rather open-minded home, the topics discussed, are in my opinion, not made for a kosher cite- especially one that carries the name of “yeshiva world”.
I know that there are many different people posting, including some members who think that there is nothing wrong with some of the topics, however there are also singles and bachurim surfing the web.
Am I the only one who feels this way?

No.
March 28, 2011 4:33 am at 4:33 am #753812oomisParticipantYou might not be the only one, but you are CERTAINLY absolutely free to a) express your opinion and b) refrain from continuing to read posts that offend your sensibilities.

Are any of my postings offensive to anyone?
March 28, 2011 1:09 pm at 1:09 pm #753816mamashtakahMemberI, for one, think that anything that advocates breaking the law of the land, whether it’s “halachically permissible” or not, should be taken down and/or blocked.
March 28, 2011 1:10 pm at 1:10 pm #753817SJSinNYCMemberJust by being MO, I’m naturally offensive 🙂
March 28, 2011 1:20 pm at 1:20 pm #753818smartcookieMemberI’m not getting it. Can you be more specific? I haven’t found a website that’s more Kosher than this one.
We can’t ONLY discuss Shidduchim. This aint a teenage blog after all.
March 28, 2011 1:23 pm at 1:23 pm #753819mikehall12382Memberexamples…everything seems pretty clean here, especially with the mods working overtime 🙂

So any mention of doing a bris milah in Communist Russia or R’ Akiva being moser nefesh to teach Torah should be banned from Yeshiva World?

March 28, 2011 5:32 pm at 5:32 pm #753824metrodriverMemberDaas Yochid; If YWN Coffee Room were running in the good (Bad, really) old USSR or the Roman Empire, any threads about Bris Milah or Learning Torah would be banned. In addition, you (who posted on these topics) would hear from the NKVD (Or, KGB) at 3AM with a knocki on the door.
March 28, 2011 5:34 pm at 5:34 pm #753825s2021MemberSo being Yeshivish means not talking about contraversial topics? Being a molded from a cookie cutter??
March 28, 2011 6:25 pm at 6:25 pm #753826hudiParticipantThese are topics that people, even yeshivish (gasp!) people discuss. They just don’t do it out in the open.
And I don’t think there’s a problem with singles and bochurim. Have you seen anything inappropriate?

I don’t think that’s fair at all considering he was right not controversial!
He’s out of line all the time. Don’t get us started. It’s his way, or the highway.

You are so right. All this dating talk, yuuuck.
March 28, 2011 7:00 pm at 7:00 pm #753829parbenbakarMemberThe CR is a blemish on an otherwise excellent and appropriate website. Recently there was an inappropriate post describing abuse from an ex-husband. YWN represents the “yeshivishe” type on the web. Frankly the silliness and veiled references of some of the posts are a Chillul Hashem. I recommend that the CR be shut down.
March 28, 2011 7:20 pm at 7:20 pm #753830real-briskerMemberparbenbakar – You can asked to get Blocked if you want, don’t oblige others.
March 28, 2011 7:38 pm at 7:38 pm #753831s2021Memberparben..- but Im yeshivish type
March 28, 2011 8:02 pm at 8:02 pm #753832MDGParticipantSof haDavar HaKol Nishmah – At the end all will be heard.
Why? because we are allowed to discuss all topics. BUT, as the passuk continues, it must lead to Yirat Hashem and doing Mitsvot.
We talk about difficult situations to help others with their situations and feeling arising from those situations.
Areivim ze lezeh. Areiv can also mean sweeten, as used in bircat haTorah. All Jews sweeten each other.
March 28, 2011 8:21 pm at 8:21 pm #753833smartcookieMemberParben- discussing abusive hubs is not Yeshivish?
Maybe the jokes thread is more fun, but nothing inappropriate about the former.
You’re not the newest Joseph, are ya?
March 29, 2011 2:59 am at 2:59 am #753834HealthParticipantI don’t like posters like “knowsitall”, who thinks he/she knows it all and we all have to conform to their opinion. I totally disregard people who come here and denigrate YWN and the posters in the CR. If the OP had a legitmate Taanah he/she could have posted what topic(s), he/she finds offensive. Then we could have an open discussion -pro or con. The fact he/she doesn’t do that is because his/her purpose is just to rank out/ put down everyone here. I for one will not go on the defensive like some of the above posters.

March 29, 2011 11:58 am at 11:58 am #753845aries2756ParticipantThe CR is a place to be able to discuss topics that people need to discuss in a Kosher Way. If you find it offensive maybe you should NOT be reading them. Try filtering and moving on to the next topic. Anyone has the choice to move on or shut their computer any time they feel something is offensive or inappropriate. Or NOT open that topic to begin with. Trying to deny others the right to speak about what is on their mind or heart is also offensive.
There are enough MODS here to filter what THEY feel is inappropriate and enough posters to comment when remarks are offensive and need to be accounted for. That means in a heated argument when apologies are warranted.

March 29, 2011 4:47 pm at 4:47 pm #753853🍫Syag LchochmaParticipantrealbrisker- how do you know which post he was talking about? I personally agree that there are topics and comments that are not appropriate and am grateful when the ones that go way over are erased, but, as I have said many times, I consider it my problem and something I should deal with on my own (stop reading or posting). My job is not to change the world when I haven’t finished with myself yet. (and tweaks to the kids too, lol). But the funny thing is that the topic of abuse (I’m assuming that was the upsetting topic) is NOT something I would put an end to. I think people need to understand what is out there in the private way it has been expressed. Abuse from others and otd issues as well. My problem (again, my personal issue) are the silly, drinking related, put-down related, sometimes pushing the tznius edge, posts.
March 29, 2011 5:12 pm at 5:12 pm #753854HAKOL TOVMemberi have been reading the cr posts for a very long time but never actually contributed!
i have to say that i have been extremely impressed!

and this also helps us see how great the yiddishe kinder are!
so many people from so many different backgrounds post here and most are so respectful…
i could go on and on…

March 29, 2011 7:05 pm at 7:05 pm #753857🍫Syag LchochmaParticipantrealbrisker-Oh gosh, it was HaLeiVi. Someone (thought it was you) said they saw the post the OP was referring to and I was just curious to know how they figured it out from the OP’s post. Sorry if it sounded confrontational. I usually work very hard to avoid confrontation.
March 29, 2011 7:55 pm at 7:55 pm #753858HaLeiViParticipantI was talking about parbenbakar’s comment. I don’t either think the abuse thread should be taken down, but there was an inappropriate description there, albeit not extremely terrible, nor that descriptive.
