I was at a wedding with no band and no singer, instead there was a computerized music system with someone controlling it. The quality of the music was much better then a typical one man band,the dancing was very lively, and its for a fracture of the cost of a one man band and singer. (its oned by the hall so you dont need to rent it and shlep it each time).
Whats your toughts about that being the standard at all weddings?
I think it should be.
I think weddings should be in the shul’s social hall, with the meal in your house for immediate family and grandparents.

deiyezooger’s idea, which had a lot of thought, time and money invested into making it so easy and un-costly, does not deserve to be downplayed.

I think the same thing but some people want to have the option on changing songs on demand and the quality of a DJ system is even better then a band.
The CD DJ would do the changing of whichever CD’s.
To bring along a CD is like bringing your own camara, it might take nice pictures but its not as good as a photagrapher, and you have to be busy taking pictures/running the music yourself instead of being busy welcoming your geusts.
Someone would be dedicated to controlling the CD’s and player just as in the idea in your OP. So no one would be distracted by the task.
Grandmaster: There is no need to bring CD’s. Professional musicians prepared these “materials” and its available, i believe free of charge. It was done by people who want to help

If a Kollel Guy can do it and is just clicking on the next playlist, it isn’t.
Professional DeeJays are not cheaper than a one man band.
It’s a beautiful idea
A DJ is great, but if you are into music, watching the musician play is inspiring.
anon1m0us: True. But people have to decide whether they would like to inspire their guests, or borrow money.
Listen to the cords of a violin being played or the keys on a piano, it is truly an amazing sound. Unfortunately, with my age comes the disdain of today’s load music playing at wedding where half of the guests are annoyed it is soo loud. So i agree, do not borrow money to make your guests miserable. If you plan on having an orchestra without drums or electric guitars, give me a call. I’d love to hear them play.

One of the first rules for quality sound is “never use the house audio system”.
